Shor 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Durian price in Singapore and Malaysia is totally different! After I had Durians buffet , I won't buy or eat Durians in Singapore anymore. The price in Singapore is too ridiculous for MSW. Secondly, Durians we had in Singapore is already 3rd grade. This is what the owner told me. When we had it in the plantations, we had it fresh. It takes a day to deliver it to Singapore, a day to distribute and a day in the stall. Taste different and pay 4 to 5 times more. Some people might think this way, why must drive so far for Durians? Geylang got so much! My point of view, the driving part take it as a tour, see see look look....and the Durians part, take it as a bonus!!! IMHO MSW for $10/kg...I tot its around $20-$25/kg.... Please advice where. ↡ Advertisement

IMHO I hear otherwise, like the best seafood caught in Malaysian waters, the best durians are exported to Singapore or whoever can pay the highest price for them. Actually it makes sense for Singapore to get some of the better fruits produced by farms in Malaysia as our stronger currency means we can afford to pay for the best fruits that money can buy. Anyway, from my understanding, the best durian fruits are booked way in advance by buyers, some when the tree flowers and the flowers can be counted to estimate the amount of fruits it can yield during harvest. Shor 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Your theory looks very sensible too. Anyway, I used to buy good Durians in Balestier area, people who frequent Durians shopping shd know this stall Cindy durian. Being a regular customers for decades, she tends to take us for granted. It's becoming extraordinary expensive. To be honest, I am not a die hard Durian fan but my family is. I don't know exactly how this fruit are operate but the info I share is from the plantation owner. I even know how to recognize what type of durians from him, for example MSW, it is always a star on the "backside" . Apologized if I contribute to mislead bros here, but all these infos are from a Durian expert who owns many plantations! My 2 cents worth! While I have eaten the best MSW in Singapore, I ate the best 101 and D24 in Malaysia, near Segamat while enroute to Terrenganu. But margins in Singapore for durian sellers are reportedly good, it is seasonal and if they don't wack you during this period, then when?
