Eng40765 1st Gear December 2, 2011 Share December 2, 2011 I have read worse horror stories on at the VAG forum...lol... One example which I saw from Singapore car forums, my cousin bought a 3 year old GTI, change aircon and gearbox, half the car cost spent!: I need to share my frustration and bad experience with VW Singapore, on the quality of the car as well as the bad customer service assistance rendered to my case. I received my new Polo on 26 Feb 2010,and within the first week, i realised that my rear windows will auto wind-down by itself when i shut down engine/ lock the car. Initially, i thought it was due to my own careless that i forgotten to wind up the window. But after the 5th time, i realised that both windows still will come down by itself the next day, even thought i have checked and ensure that all windows were closed when i left the vehicle. In one of the night (on the 10th day after getting the car), the windows came down again and it was pouring heavily. By the time i got to my vehicle after work, the whole back seat was soaked with rain/dirt, and my bag with my laptop was totally drenched as well (laptop was soaked with water..HD died and cannot be boot up) ! I have no choice, but to bring the car back to VW on 9 Mar 2010 to seek for their help to check. When i was there, i approached my salesman- jerome lee to seek for his help and to tell him my problem with the new car. He said he was busy, and will get back to me later. After waiting for more than 2.5 hrs, he never appeared at all, apparently too busy serving his new, potential customers. He did not care to even call me, or to offer any assistance on my case. In the end, another Service man (Eric) helped me to rectify the problem. The next day, i was told that they will need to change the control panel and driver window panel. I will need to wait for 2 weeks for the parts to be in for replacement. And, they could not compensate me for the damage of my laptop as it was not under their purview. I told them this was unacceptable, and Eric has kindly helped me to expenditure the parts to be flown in so that they can replace the damage parts. Great! Problem solved although VW could not compensate me for the waste of time/ money and the loss of all my data and work inside the laptop. And today, 31 Mar 2010, the car's aircon was faulty. Only hot air blown out, no cold air and the fan was producing same weird noise. i called my salesman Jerome and asked why is my NEW CAR giving me so many problems! First, the windows' panel..and now within 1 month, the aircon. When i was buying the car, he said that VW is one of the leading car brand in the world with superior engineering quality. And now look at my 1 month old Polo! And he can actually told me that he has sold many polos, and i was in bad luck to get this car. Are you telling me that VW DOES NOT DO CONDUCT SERIOUS QUALITY CHECK on their car, and it depends on the customers' luck whether they get a new car with zero problem or if you are in bad luck, a car with faulty parts? Or is it because Polo, being the cheapest/ non-luxury car in the showroom, do not deserve the kind detailed QC before they are launched and sold to the customer?! I demand an explanation for my case and please do not think that we, consumers have all the time in the world, taking vacation leave to send the car for repair, to spend on cab for traveling and again wasting resources such as season parkings because the car needed servicing so frequently. And not to mention the damages to my car leather upholstery and laptop due to the flooding in the 1st instance. This is totally unprofessional and unacceptable of VW to treat their customer this way! I had already suffered damages and loss and i really cannot foresee which parts is going to break down next in this brand new car! ↡ Advertisement
KARTer 2nd Gear December 2, 2011 Share December 2, 2011 (edited) I have read worse horror stories on at the VAG forum...lol... On paper and visually speaking I was quite impressed with the CC.... not sure if what we have in this thread is 'typical'? a neighbour has one and so far havent seen tow truck yet, but it did disappear for a few weeks recently, either it has gone for a long road trip or in workshop?? (i enjoy looking at it from my window though, the shape is nice) Edited December 2, 2011 by KARTer

But the lack of service at the workshop is not acceptable when you pay this kind of cash.

No Review I have driven alot of new cars, but this has yet to be the most unreliable car ever - not to mention VERY POOR after sales service. On the 3rd day after collecting the car, my wife and 2 toddlers took the car out for grocery shopping. While driving, the car engine suddenly started to choke with system error lights flashing all over the dashboard. She had a few mins to look for a carpark lot nearby and immediately parked the car. The moment she stopped the car, the car engine died. She called up the VW Roadside Assistance and waited for more than 2 hours. If you read VW's website - they promised to make an effort to arrive the scene within 45mins unless bad traffic. I checked the traffic and it was freeflow all across. Frustrated, I skipped work to pick up my wife and kids. The tow truck arrived the moment I got to the carpark lot - exactly 2.5 hours after she made the call. The next day, VW sales manager sent us a typical cut & paste 'I am sorry'' email and offered us a loaner car. Few hours later, a VW technician called me up asking me to go pick up the car as they have repaired the faulty engine. I refused to pick up the car because the car is defective and asked the sales manager to contact me for a new replacement. VW Singapore sold us a car that is improperly assembled, poor inspected and released to the roads for consumers to drive. How can I be assured that this car engine wont fail again? The sales manager wrote us an email telling us that the engine failure was due to a defective control box and have replaced the said item. When I questioned if they can give me assurances that the car engine wont die in the middle of road again, the question was left unanswered. Be very cautious about buying this car or any VW brand. Roh96 6th Gear December 9, 2011 Share December 9, 2011 Wah after reading some of the horror stories about your new VW, i start to appreciate my old trusty Jap car now. Although no sophisticated sensor or any high tech DSG gearbox, but still it does its job well everyday without fail. No headache about aftersales service, no advance booking of slot and crap. Just bring my own EO, drive to mechanic and service on spot. Parts easily available and most imptly it is cheap.

Bro, it's the same everywhere. You get 1 to 1 replacement for parts, but not 1 to 1 replacement for the whole car once it's registered.

I and my friend had bought the old VW Jetta TSI year back together, before I changed to Altis(Current car). After 1.5 years, my friend's Jetta having gearbox problems and have caused him a bomb, I have sold mind too. With such of new car back then, was already giving major issues. Today, it is no longer an exclusivity car. It have become a mass market cars like Japs and korean cars. So much for the bad, but I also have a good driving experience on my previous old VW Jetta TSI. Handling corners were much better than the jap and korean cars. So there is a trade-off with my current Altis. I have also test drive the New VW Jetta sports, and to my surprise the corners handling was not as good as the old VW Jetta TSI.
