yes.. that famous jewellery shop at amk... i have one that is similar to your story.

sold me a set of 'new' 18" rim and tyres. steering wheel vibrate like nobody biz at only 100kmh.

went back he denied flatly. bullsh1t said my car got alignment problem. then i kao peh he relented a bit, tried to 'troubleshoot' by letting go air so that the tyres not so hard (thus more tolerant to the vibration). but this is just avoiding the issue.

demanded refund, he refused, swap another is fine, but the shop got no stock for this one, or that one that i fancied. got to wait, but dunno when stock arrive. obviously play punk [furious]

kan pua tulan. but i couldn't live with that vibration either.

end up i went to another shop at ubi, trade-in with top-up and got a set of new prodrive and tyres.

swee swee. even 200kmh no problem. don't need to do any alignment at all.

then onwards, banned that con-shop for life.

yah man, such cunning shop, dunno why they can still survive... went to S*h tyre last mth to change my tyre. Saw their shop full with cars... maybe bcos their price is slightly more competative but i dont even bother to check... i can afford to spend a few more dollars for a tyre but cant afford to get cheated again and risk my life!

Some shops must be avoided at all cost.

Cheap doesnt mean good.

I thought balancing should be able to resolve the steering vibration problem? At least for my case.

Seems like that AMK shop is always all out to chop...

He tried to sell me a bald tyre, attempting to convince me that it can last me at least a good 12 months. The tyre was so bald that i doubt it'll even last 3 months. [thumbsdown]

For old tyres, look for the week/month of manufacture.

For warped rims, watch the rim when they do high speed balancing. It wobbles when spinning.

nope. balancing wont solved the problem if your rim is warped... but it could be repair. I remember that its around $50 (many yrs ago) if you were to do it in malaysia. They need to heat up the rim and knock it back...

yes, those rims were wobbling

it is strange that many still patronize them despite so many bad experiences

The shop was very popular among the hyundai club membersand there were many positive feedback on this shop so i trusted his word...

Excuse me, where did you read this from? I don't recall seeing any positive reviews about that shop in ClubHyundai forum. Neither is that shop popular over there. The shop has a merchant thread there but that's about it.

Speaking from personal experience, got conned before by the jewelry shop at AMK too. Sold me a bunch of used warped rims with f**ked up tires. I remember I wanted Goodyear F1s and the son told me those no good, get F*lken 522 better. Sucked to hell, noisy, couldn't even go over a pool of water without hydroplaning. And the steering vibrated even after I went to various shops to do balancing.

St*mford tyres also must take with a pinch of salt. I went there to do balancing on the rims, they told me cannot, the rims spoilt and ok being a kuku, I overpaid for a bunch of brand new Rays Gramlights and F*lken 912.

One and a half year and 28,000km later, hear weird sounds went back to check, tire all worn out already and they had the cheek to tell me my rims were warped need to buy a new set of rims + F*lken 912 again!

Luckily never believe them, went to change to a set of Dunlops, now running fine.

So it's confirmed...

The warped rims scam is still ongoing after more than ten years in Singapore?

My dad was conned into buying a secondhand set of rims, when all he wanted was a new set of tyres. The shop said cannot balanced the original rims due to warping.

The secondhand set was ok.

But still my dad was conned to buy a new set of rims unnecessary.

p.s. this was also the shop that blatantly told me that my Evo X's Volk Racing RE030 Formula Limited rims sucks compared to their Rota Grid rims. Talk about being objective.

LOL i cannot believe some 1 say this, they properly wana trade in your rim, sell u their rota rim, make money from there,

and RESELL YOUR VOLK RACING rim for a even higher price,

some 1 who is a first time car owner WILL FALL FOR IT ....

we really must blacklist these shop.
