Weewee1976 3rd Gear August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 if tomtom really doesn't support community maps then it will be such a waste. I've just checked out papago! website and it only shows R5800 and Z-880 which both does not state if they support TMC, neither do they state the price. website also states that distributor is eastgear, but went eastgear website, no Papago! only garmin/holux. That website is already outdated. Papago! now is distributed by M3Asia: http://www.m3asia.com/ You can check out the latest R6300T model using Papago X8 navigation software. Else, you can get the R6600 from Autobacs at $259 promo price now. ↡ Advertisement

I realised R6600 is using the X6 software while R6300T is using the X8 software, any notable difference? based on the website, the only difference between the two other than the software would be the bluetooth handsfree which I don't need.I'll check out the price difference between the two when I take a walk at funan/sim lim and decide again. thanks for your recommendation. by the way, is the TMC a free service or a paid subscription? Tom Tom's foray into this region is quite new and their map cannot be compared to Garmin. In order to create a community map for Tom Tom, you have to get hold of the Tom Tom map compiler or someone who can reverse engineer the Tom Tom compiler just like what Stanislaw Kozicki did when he reversed engineered the Garmin compiler and called it cgpsmapper compiler. The wide availability of this reversed engineered Garmin compiler is credited for the world wide popularity of Garmin and tons of free open source maps of many countries. In order for Tom Tom to be at the level of Garmin, who have official collaboration with MSM, they have to work with an established mapping community like MFM to produce their map. To do so, Tom Tom will have to make their compiler at MFM's disposal. Even if any brands like Tom Tom or Magellan is willing to share its compiler with an established mapping community, the wide availability of third party maps will still remain the domain of Garmin. Redstorm 1st Gear August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 Hi Redstorm, I am using Garmin 1350. Is it possible/How to change and plot our own route? I can preview route, but cannot seem to change the routing. Thanks in advance. I am afraid you can't do that unless you that the "Trip Planner" or "Custom Routes" as they called it in the older Garmin models. The Nuvi 1350 does not have this feaure. Basically, the Trip Planner allows you to plan multiple destinations in one route. It will bring u to the first destination then, next and till the last. This is useful especially those doing delivery. This feature can also be used to plan which particular routes to take and thus avoiding those routes that may be problematic, eg. traffic jam, etc. I made this of this feature to avoid certain areas in KL notoriourly known for traffic jams. Byond 1st Gear August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 have been on a garmin 255w since mid 2009 until recently it started giving me problems (frequent restarts, couldn't read maps loaded in SD card). brought down to eastgear and they said they no longer support garmin products, but they were nice enough to help me troubleshoot and update the firmware of my GPS. funny thing is they said there wasn't any problem with the GPS and based on the problem I told them, it could be the problem with my charger which I doubt so. so before I really wait for my garmin to let it die off by itself, I think it's time for me to look for a new replacement first and I realised now they have this live traffic update which I dunno how it works, does it require me to pay a monthly subscription? from eastgear website, holux TMC cradle provides a 2 year free subscription for the live traffic update, what about other brands?I'm looking at either tomtom or garmin, not looking at other brands. I think the basic requirements should be: -integrated TMC (or live traffic update, different brands have different terms) within the GPS and not as an external unit -lane assist (this should be pretty common among the newer GPS) -postal code search (I just realised not all GPS has this feature, the Navman F15 GPS my SE gave me when I bought my car recently can't search using postal code) can anyone recommend me any models for these two brands? for Tomtom I think only GO 750 has it but I would like to compare it with any garmin users who has this integrated live traffic update. hi bro, i got the same problem as u. GPS sometimes lost stats, not able to log on. even after one hour drive, lost recept. then update firmware, managed to get it going, but at times, will still lose stat recepts. same model too, 255W, Now based on Bro Redstorm's recommendation, aiming at Garmin 2465W i think tomorrow got road show at suntec, check this out http://www.garmin.com.sg/

Thanks a lot Redstorm. I was expecting this to be a basic feature, and cannot comprehend why Google Maps has various alternatives and also allow us to "pull" the routing to our desired choice, but not Garmin. Hope Google Maps will come with navigation feature soon.
Tyongchi 1st Gear August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 I've been using my old and trusted Garmin Nuvi 660 since 2007. Travelled with it to Europe several times and it got me to my destination pin point. International maps for Garmin is abundance. Route planing on Mapsource is fast and easy. Garmin the way! Care to share your experience? Ya, I saw a mixture sharing too on HWZ and other forum, so I decided to invest $169 to try it out ( I got my set from Courts cuz they have this refund guarantee within 7 days even it's used). Well their CS was quite efficient during my visit and the lady was kind enough to process my UK Map loan and paste my screen protector for me without I ask for it. I heard they are a Taiwanese own manufacturer, so not sure if it's their culture or it's just that lady being sweet.
Reno3 Neutral Newbie August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 Call challenger & cyberactive before buying , was totally surprised when cyberactive only charged $240.00 . The R6600 is using X7. Differences between the X8 and X7 I'm not too sure, but X8 sure looks good from the pics. R6600 will eventually be upgraded to X8 as I've done a check with M3 Asia some time back. This is because Papago in Taiwan already dropped support for X7 and below versions for X8 already. TMC is a free service for lifetime from M3 Asia. Don't understand why East Gear only provide 2 years subscription for their Holux GPS (maybe because due to more info like car park availability and weather, which I find totally redundant). Jcty Neutral Newbie August 5, 2011 Share August 5, 2011 I bought a Garmin Nuvi 2565, one of the later model I was told. Came back from trip to the morth and highly recommend it. Slightly over $300. Enjoy the split screen showing street view when I come to a major junction. I bought a wall socket charger for $10 and it I think there is short circuit problem with it and it affects the GPS device. When I use the car charger there was no problem. Just beware of the wall charger if you have to buy one.

It's basically the same, only with more features like driving recorder. And comes with both AC and DC charger. You should buy the genuine Garmin AC-charger ↡ Advertisement
