Hawthorne Neutral Newbie November 8, 2012 Share November 8, 2012 In the section where they sell windscreen cleaner. Most have a label sticker for oil film remover. However, the box is usually all Japanese words, so that's the difficult part to select which one. The correct ones comes in cream form in a small bottle. Cost about $10. You apply with soft sponge, then let it dry. Use hard foam to scrap the cream off. The cream will bind to the oil film and everything comes off. Wahh.. sounds very hardcore. Ok. Will go autobacs one of these days to see ↡ Advertisement

Ghostrider 3rd Gear November 8, 2012 Share November 8, 2012 I use the fine abrasive pad from 3M (buy from Autobac) I will clean the glass using soap (car wash shampoo, glass cleaner etc) then with the soap sud still on the glass...I will wet the 3M pad with water and slowly rub the glass...keep lubricating the glass with the left over soap so that its like a wet polish. When you are done, rinse the glass with water and I will use glass polish (dunno what lasup brand...bought in JB petrol kiosk one) or Zaino Z2 to polish the glass. For the wiper...use concentrated wiper fluid to coat the rubbers. Leave it to dry then put them back on the glass.

Gunny76 Clutched November 8, 2012 Share November 8, 2012 Not sure how abrasive the 3M pad is, but I ever tried a common household dish pad, the green color one that you use to wash dish, and ended up with so many fine scratches all over the windscreen. Haiz! I could be rubbing it too hard... Luckily the windscreen chipped and and crack not so long after that, so could claim insurance and change... LOL. That new windscreen then had the same "cloudy" problem (same like TS problem) again after one year or so. Tried the glass compound like someone suggested here, and it works like magic. Crystal clear and baby's ass smooth with no single scratch...

Wee_huat Neutral Newbie November 8, 2012 Share November 8, 2012 is it hard to remove???or easily?????does is clears the lines on the windscreen cause by the rain?
Ghostrider 3rd Gear November 8, 2012 Share November 8, 2012 How can those pads scratch your windscreen...its made of glass...unless you go and scrub your headlight lenses which most are made of plastics. I have used those pads before to clean my windscreen too...but never had a problem...maybe when you were rubbing the glass you had some hard particle embedded in the pad so when you scrub...it transfer to your glass...like wipers...if there is a grain of sand stuck on it...and you wipe the glass....also will cause scratches. Hawthorne Neutral Newbie November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 My Rain-X Xtreme clean finally came by courier today, and I think it worked! Finally something that can remove this oily film The Xtreme Clean is a whitish creeam very similar to Cif. U apply it to the windscreen and rub it in (require some elbow grease). After that, rinse off. I am waiting for the big sun tomorrow to verify the oily film is indeed removed
Hawthorne Neutral Newbie November 16, 2012 Share November 16, 2012 I changed the stock wipers to Bosch Aerotwin as well. Windscreen looks good even against the heavy rain these few days. So my solution was to the oily film was: 1. use Cif and rinse off few times, try to remove as much as the oily film as possible. 2. use Rain-X Xtreme Clean and rinse off a few times. 3. Verify the oily film has indeed been removed under bright sunlight 4. Change to new wipers (so that the oily film does not get re-transferred back to the clean windscreen) Next step, to clean my rear windows of the oily film. Intend to apply rain-X to the rear windscreen, side windows and mirrors. Shall skip the windscreen to avoid the potential noisy wiper issues some bros are experiencing here. With the rainy season, visibility is of utmost importance for safety.
Yipeng85 Neutral Newbie November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 Asking a dumb question: You mean to apply cif on the windscreen? Is it safe to apply a household cleaner on the windscreen? I have this persistent same problem but didnt go away even after applying rainx. How long did you spend scrubbing? I changed the stock wipers to Bosch Aerotwin as well. Hawthorne Neutral Newbie November 28, 2012 Share November 28, 2012 (edited) This is from rain-x website http://www.rainx.co.uk/tips.php What is the correct way to apply Rain-X Rain Repellent? It is essential to observe the directions for use. In particular: Before application, ensure the screen is thoroughly cleaned. In particular, remove all waxes and silicones that may have been applied if the car has been through a car wash. This is best achieved with a soft abrasive cleaner, such as Cif. Apply to a dry screen at temperatures above +5 Edited November 28, 2012 by Hawthorne
