Ladykillerz 4th Gear May 10, 2012 Share May 10, 2012 in terms of budget, cruze -> forte -> elantra. in terms of technology, elantra -> forte -> cruze. in terms of looks, elantra -> cruze -> forte. it is very obvious to know the result from the polling without seeing it, elantra will get the highest vote. ↡ Advertisement
Steptronic Supercharged May 11, 2012 Share May 11, 2012 The cabin design and materials are far better than the new Altis that make in Thailand. The koreans are chasing up to Japanese standard in no time. True, I guess Koreans have overtaken. But sometimes I feel, Korean design (esspecially Hyundai) does it bit over. You see I45 and Elantra, too much of frills, lines etc which is not going well with all buyers.

But i guess not many people agree on this, since you still able to find many people buying the altis.

Most that buy altis buy cuz it is proven to be reliable or they don't want to try other brand already. Like my older relatives. Everytime change car has to be a toyota. They don't even bother to go to other showrooms.

I have relative and colleague also same, only buy toyota car and would not consider other make. Anyway, seems like forte also have 10k discount on their car price this weekends. Is reliable, but cabin fittings was cheap.

Elantra had a little plastic-key cabin and a over designed car. It's pleasing with initial look, but the longer you view, it looks odd and funny. Beside these, I was finally right on Cruze of it's FC which currently clock 11.3km/L (Auto model) and 12.5km/L(Manual mode). I'm somehow still do not trust Korean's engines. But notably chasing up to Japanese ones recently. Edited May 12, 2012 by HP_Lee

Even their thermostat housing are using plastic than cracks easily.

Anyway I have drove an Opel year before as my first car. After 5 years, the engine is still good at 140,560km. In those days, I still remember the FC was 8km/L even with light footed. Maybe I'm lucky. The 4 cars of different made have not give me problems, accept I sold Jetta within a year+.

Their weakness is actually in their actuator in their tranmission. Cant get used to the jerkiness from 1st to 2nd gear also.

Not realizing that the world has changed. I am quite disappointed with Japanese cars, other than the hybrid cars, they are behind European and Korean already. But after a few tries, I catches it to a smooth transmission by press and release the pedel in auto model. After a week, it becomes natural to me on controlling the clatch. Not realizing that the world has changed. I am quite disappointed with Japanese cars, other than the hybrid cars, they are behind European and Korean already. Initially, this was what I thought too. I have been a critc while drove a Altis. But one day, somewhere year end of 2011 I just happen to be near Alpine showroom after visiting Toyota service center. So just take a look what's new for GM. To my surprise, they have changed so much after when I saw the Cruze model. The rest like the Kias and other Koreans are so quite ahead of the Japs model. That really changes my mind. Even the new 1.5 hybrid did not impress me either. The Japs are stuck in the dated designs. Lastly, I also have good experenice with my previous Altis. The FC was great at 13.5 - 14km/L and does not give me a single problem. The reason for the change to Cruze, was safety concerns on Japs tin-cans and comfort. My currently Cruze is only able to clock around 11.5km - 12.5km/L. FC is not bad as what I initially thought on such a heavy tank-like car.

Some people are royal to certain make/model, or some people are comfortable buying certain make.model. So if the car didnt give them much problems and reliability is trusted, they will continue buying the same make/model. I also have one relative buy toyota after toyota, from corolla to vios to altis. Even though my relative quite impress on the recent korea cars, but in the end still choose toyota just to play safe.
Limpeh23 2nd Gear May 30, 2012 Share May 30, 2012 Toyota might not make the nicest looking cars, but I think their cars are generally reliable and do their job well, that's where their appeal is. ↡ Advertisement
