Pchmj Clutched September 20, 2011 Share September 20, 2011 i know it is very difficult to accept the fact that the police wont and cannot intervene with such cases of passengers refusing to pay fare. but we must understand the bigger implication. this is because if police is to enforce payment for service for taxis, then all other businesses will also go to the police and tell them that their so and so customers after take their service or goods, do not pay up, and so ask the police to help, as in the case for taxis. then you can imagine how busy the police will be with the tens of thousands of such disputes. and also they cannot take words from one side and need to collect evidence and interviews and conduct mediation etc etc. perhaps thats why it is a policy that the police cannot be involved in such business conflicts. What's the difference between not paying taxi fare and shoplifting? If there's a shoplifter, you mean police will let the guy off?
JaydenSTI 1st Gear September 20, 2011 Share September 20, 2011 Taxi drivers need help Recently there was a case where an ang moh took cab home refused to pay and when police came said they can't do anything. Makes me wonder what good is the police for when they can't even protect our own citizens and enforce a payment that is due to them. Seriously would the police in any other developed country allow this to happen? If any other country allow people to take a cab and get away for not paying, their cab drivers will all go on strike, bringing down a vital cog in the transport system until the authorities do something about it. but what can the poor cab drivers in s'pore do abt it? They already have to pay for rental, diesel and only make $100/day or even less after all the expenses, after driving 12 hrs or so, now even have to worry whether the customer they pick up will be a paying customer or not? What is becoming of our society nowadays... well, one or few instances whereby these cabbies being "bullied", probably they are the near extinction of the "kind soul" among. However, this does not change the fact that tonnes of super black "shyt" playing punk around our road here. How many cabbies allow you to alight before paying the fee? A kind hearted they are I should say but also consider stupid in another way..... A few occasions that my MIL took cab to some POI, and everytime these cabbies will try to play foul by travel a MUCH longer distance as my MIL is not local thus does not really know the road here. I have actually spoken to these cabbies through my MIL phone, guess what, always a 5 to 10 dollar "discount" and repetitive "sorry" followed. The common things that happened to these shyty cabbies is will never issue a recipe even if requested, tonnes of excuses to reject such request. Cabbies are well known to travel in between lanes, cut into lane abruptly, sudden brake, road hogging, etc... there are more to add on..... worst of all (at least to me), cabbies are the WORST rubbernecking driver OTR, not only slow down, but mostly come to a almost complete stop! fk them on this!! their butts will always welcoming you to kiss them OTR, be it deliberately (not other road users but none other than themselves) or not. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear September 20, 2011 Share September 20, 2011 More often than not, I notice taxi drivers are well-mannered on the road unless they need to pick up or drop off customers. That is one balancing tasks that is not easy to work on. I give credit to them since I often notice they signal and yield willingly. Not an easy job trying to please both the customer while avoiding unnecessary road rage from other road users while need to pay rental and other rules for being a cabbie...and yet keeping your cool and your little rice bowl. Jubilong 2nd Gear September 20, 2011 Share September 20, 2011 I think we have to be objective in this case. It is not so much of the taxi driver but rather a foreigner can be so blatant as to do this in our country. Today it is the taxi driver tomorrow the same scum may do something to our fellow sgporeans. Already there is an aussie and brit getting compounded charge of $5 k for molesting our gals. so are we to say the gals deserve it? Another case 3 ang mos ( aussie, nz, brit ) wack a taxi driver drove his cab, injured 3 other persons, the case is still pending after more than a year. I think the police needs to send a message hard and strong to these foreigners why so lenient why so long?
Carra Neutral Newbie September 20, 2011 Author Share September 20, 2011 i am glad that some of those who commented in this thread see my point of raising this issue: that the police are not doing their job in protecting our citizens, be it taxi driver or not. I am not for taxi drivers, while I used to be very against them. I am also not expecting anything that could be done or changed by just typing a few words here in mcf, but the issue now is that the police can say hands off when people take cab and dun pay, when someone kenna whack until bleeding already they still cannot arrest the attacker who is still around, doesn;t that mean they can't protect the rights of the citizens? It's precisely because some people know the police will not be able to do much, that's why they push their luck and take cab without paying, or whack someone else without thinking of the consequence. If the police come down hard on those who take cab and dun pay, or those who whack others until the victim bleeding or injured, then the chances of these things happening will be much smaller, so the police won't have their hands tied attending to these small cases. Quote one example, why s'poreans so afraid of typing so called anti gov remarks online in s'pore? it precisely because everyone knows that cyberspace is monitored by you know who. The deterrent factor is there. If the police can deter people from doing those things mentioned above, and send a strong message that such acts are not condoned, then they will make things much easier for themselves too.
