Expertz 1st Gear October 24, 2011 Share October 24, 2011 i walked past a TP on a bridge b4, the camera is able to zoom into your car's front license plate and capture a perfectly clear image, but that was during the day not sure if it is able to do the same at night also i was rushing, so i couldn't stop to see if the police had to aim at the license plate, or was the license plate capture automatic but i'm very certain that the image is black and white clear, no doubt about the numbers or the letters also able to capture license plates on the evos where the plate is located on the side of the car ↡ Advertisement

Yogi 1st Gear November 20, 2013 Share November 20, 2013 Guys, reviving an old thread as trying to avoid new thread on old topics. Was travelling on Newton road towards Novena when I saw an auntie in white top and dark (blue?) pants on the overhead bridge with a handheld camera (no tripod). Definitely not a TP but not too sure they belong to Cisco or other out-sourced parties. Any ideas if this is an out-sourced agency manning a speed trap or an auntie shooting some home videos? Just curious but not concerned actually....
Knoobie Supercharged November 20, 2013 Share November 20, 2013 I remember, in US or UK, the police put a mannequin fitted with cop's uniform and sunglasses and place in the driver seat. Everyone who passes by slow down and suck thumb.. not knowing that it is actually a fake.. why our govt never use such method to cut costs.. :(

Whiteberry Neutral Newbie June 23, 2015 Share June 23, 2015 I happened to drive past a TP holding a speed gun at my car. Prior to that I was travelling about 20km/h above the speed limit of the road. When I saw his volvo parked by the side of the road, I hit my brakes immediately and was about 8km/h above the speed limit. Question, Since I had gone over the speed limit, wasn't he supposed to chase me and pull me over? Or would I be expecting a letter in a week?

Scare, then don't speed. These two weeks, eat vegetarian and pray, you should be ok. On the serious note, you won't know if he hit you at +20km/h or +8km/h. So no point worrying over it. Already happened. If letter come, bite the bullet and pay the fine.

If its a tp using a gun by the side of the road, you are safe if he did not chase u. If its a cop on top, then have to wait for two weeks to be safe. Usually within one week "Nation building" letter come liao.

I noticed that he moved the speed gun like a camera trying to record a moving car. Was it recording video? I heard that such speed guns have video recording function as well. Not that I'm unhappy he didn't chase me, but is there a reason why he didn't? Do these cops by the side of the expressway issue summons on the spot? I remember a few years ago, a WRX pulled me over after i exceeded the speed limit by 30km/h on TPE during CNY. WIthin 3 days can go check whether got any summon right? The TP must have one superhuman arm muscles to hold the thing up for such a long time. As you can see, those cop on top prefer to use a tripod for that purpose. Actually, to acurrately measure speed of a car going pass. Your position has to be stationary with the speed gun not moving. Why the TP not chase you? Only he can answer that question. -Not enough meat on the bone? -quota hit liao? -just to frighten speeding drivers? -having fun frightening speeding drivers? -your car looks like police commisioner's personal car? -your car has invisible mode? -your looks frigthened the him till he pee in jis pants? etc.......... Clevec Clutched April 11, 2017 Share April 11, 2017 This afternoon, there was a dismounted TP, with a parked volvo, positioned on the left side of the bend on KPE, between tunnel exit and before exit to TPE. He was standing and holding on with his arm onto a handheld speed cam. I think I was travelling 100-110km/h on the 80km/h speed limit. Question, does that handheld speed cam have any video recording or number plate detection? The TP never chase me, but dunno if will kanna letter.
