Brake screeches at low speed braking....

My brake pads / rotors are in working condition and are not worn but at very low speed braking (below 10 kmh turning into side road, for example) sometimes it makes mild screeching sounds. Incidentally, cold morning also same sounds when i move the car out from the carpark.

Any bro experience this? [:)]

Workshop has checked it and said nothing wrong with the brakes.

maybe the pads not placed properly? some metal parts contacted the disc

KARTer:

1) Minimum operating temperature not met yet- Brake pads still cold.

2) Sound due to brake dust.

Thanks.

The morning / cold screeches are likely due to cold pads etc, but the screeches while turning into side road to reach home (in fact only at this particular low speed turn, not other turns at all) still puzzle me coz the current pads dont seem to produce lots of brake dusts (unlike those 600-700deg pads used last time).

Read recently somewhere the low speed screech is 'cant be helped' and inherent, but nothing to worry about. Hope bros here can confirm or advise 'cures' if they are really needed.

years ago, a fren told me tat sometimes the brakes screech becos of cool temperature or dust/dirt trapped....not sure if it's true....but for me, as long as the braking performance isn't suffering, a little bit of screeching doesnt matter to me. [cool]

Hi,KARter,

Few months ago, I got the same irritating sound while tapping brake lightly, with alittle more stepping force apply, the sound disappeared.

I drove to Permas Jaya Tyre Shop, just opposite Jusco carpark entrance facing T-junction, the boss Ah Kim took out both the front wheels and fixed a cutting jig with a cutting tool onto the wheel hub and engaged reversing gear in engine idling rotation to trims my disk plate surface. The problem solved upon testing drive, untill now it's still doing fine.

Further checking with him what to do if it dose occur in rear disk plates, he said it will be slightly troublesome to send the disk plates to machining workshop for Lathe Turning to trim the surface, his cutting jig is only good for front wheel drive because he can steer the wheel hub pointing outward for the Jig to secure in position for the cutting.

(Contact: Ah Kim +6073863087, he speaks mandarin or hokkien.)

I've got the same issue. My mechanic open up the callipers and applied some grease at the joints for all 4 wheels. Problem solved.

Sounds like a band aid.. Is this sustainable? Just curious.

Usually it's if the pads aren't in "operation range", either too cold or too thin.

Also to note, when changing pads a good workshop will see if the discs need to be skimmed or replaced. If your old discs have lots of leftover material from your last brakes, it'll lead to very uneven wear on your new pads, and lots of noise as well.

That said, it may be due to improper burn-in of new pads, most of them are designed to have some sort of coating to be applied onto the discs.

If your workshop is going to winch up your veh, ask him to be a chum and check the pads/rotors ^^

it could be possibly due to using non oem brakes which causes screeching or there is this little metal thing that moves abit with the calipers, can't remember what its called that can be replaced to make the caliper movement smoother.

hope it helps.

Regarding burn-in process, the screech comes from the rear brake which i didnt even burn-in when the pads were new some 9 months ago. All the while there's no screeches until about a month ago. Could it still be caused by improper/absence of burn-in?
