guidelines are just like our national pledge..its just an aspiration -_-

In engineering, we like to use IDEAL situation when doing calculations and experiments.. i never knew it can be applied in politics and national policies too.. [laugh]

Saw this story on the front page of today's paper. Looked like an interesting headline, but gave after reading 1 or 2 sentences. Same 'ol tricks phrased in a manner to induce boredom even in the most forgiving of readers!

The moment they revealed that these are just non-mandatory guidelines, I flipped the page immediately in order not to contaminate my eyes..

50th post and still no sign of BADDER? [:p]

BADDER must be biding his time taking down notes, and then in one shot, debunk all the "ignorance" using his "wisdom" in this thread.

The one not the baddest but worse than Bad is in Japan enjoying his Sushi, Racing cars and Japanese Kabuki.

If the boss is my father, do I need to slouge so hard in my initial years???

Just bare in mind, nothing will be served to us in sliver platter. I know of many business owners who took over from their father. Their lives aren't easy too. They have to work hard as well. The only difference is that they do have a mentor (who is the father) to guide, share and encourage them when things are down. Whilst for people like us who do not have a father who had walked the path, we just need to look for someone and fortunate enough to find one, who is willing to share and help us. Always remember, 吃亏就是赚到。

Brudder, how many people got the same chance as you ?

I worked very very hard during my Young days, even worked overnight till next day 9pm (slept in office). and worked till 5am and sleep 1.5hours and fly here fly there burn my holidays in biz trips (even now like next Monday HRH burn as need to fly to US)...

I still don't have chance like you. So your case only for you...

I rather they state their requirements outright so people won't need to waste their time sending resumes or even attending wayang interviews.

To demand employers to remove those discriminating lines in the ads without addressing gov policy issues is liken to sweeping the problem under the carpet.

Is our minister trying to pull a fast one?

Local companies are known to be very fussy and stingy with their benefits.

A good example that i experienced:

6mths ago, i was a fresh grad and had 2 offers. Both are involved in Engineering.

1) European MNC with a local setup. Singapore branch has around 10 staff including operators. 14 days AL, travel allowance, travel insurance. Management staff in SG consist of 100% Singaporeans.

2) Local SME dealing with manufacturing specialised steel products. Around 100 staff including bangla workers. 7 days AL, no travel allowance, starting pay is 20% lower than then MNC.

No prize for guessing which one i chose.

MOM guideline 07 dayz AL.

( "Baya" also complaint / cant go home - flight + bus to village = 02 dayz (to & fro) balance 05 dayz ).

How to produce babies ...

& the job goes to a FT.....

locals will be blame for choosy/picky..... [bigcry]

As someone here mentioned, it's business as usual. Without any proposal to ensure these guidelines are being followed, it's just a piece of memo being passed around.

Talking about wayang (an act perfected by you-know-who in sgp political history), we do know miw n business communities rub shoulders like abangs.....

For all we know, the current 'tightening' of FT/FW rules is something put up by both parties in that:

Step one: To 'please' the peopl, miw does a show to appear as tightening these rules. With this show#1 they can now tell the people they care.

Step two: Let the businesmen complain (with some publicity thru SPH etc) that the tighten rules are hitting business/industry badly, so much so they may have to relocate their operations outside sgp.

Step three: miw comes on stage an do a dramatisation of "we care, but what if factories move out of sgp? we really care for the people, but.... look sad, concerned for the people, etc etc

Step four: let a few relocations take place...

Finale: miw reverts to old 'open-door' policies, businessmen smiles again... miw concluded: business is important, above all else.

Question: the challange is for miw to find the balance, and not swing to either extremes in the management/ control of influx of FT/FW.

its the same eveywhere....

how many anti war, anti greed, anti something protests have come and go?

gahmen all over the world will allow you to make noise.... then maybe do some token action to appease you...

but at the end of the day, the world will keep spinning..... there will still be war and greed and unfairness
