Modern Auto no more lag & slip like the older days auto,my 370z auto shift gear in 0.5secs[using paddle shift],so 0-100km/h timing is actually better than the manual ones.

Sad to say my vw has a noticeable lag......

wow?? isnt VW DSG suppose to be faster than Manual in shifting??

i think he shift too early, even in manual mode or when paddle shifter is on, certain upshift or downshift is not allowed until certain RPM. the system does not let driver control the gearbox totally (to protect gearbox)

I noticed that there is a significant difference between the 7-spd and 6-spd DSG.. In S-mode, the 6-spd DSG works fantastically.. [laugh]

I am referring to manual shifting instead of driving in D mode. Even in manual mode the dsg have a mind on it's own to up shift even you want to hold it longer at redline. Stick shift still better in term of full control.

I find 7 speed is a gear too much for engaging driving. 7 or 8 speed gb is more for better fuel consumption. In our traffic condition, the gb will spend more time changing gear than in gear.

I tested the Golf R before, yes a bit of lag on the 1000-1600rpm,but once the techometer hit 2000rpm.......very powerful.

ah yes, "smooth criminal" is what i call it. smooth and dangerous. I feel all FI cars should be driven at above a certain rpm.

All the VW FI R are running on bigger turbo. You can feel the lag at lower rpm. Try driving the non R and R with the same cc back to back and you will understand what i mean.

I beg to differ here. I have driven the golf r32 and R and the R32 is equally if not, more engaging to drive at higher rpm. I still a old school folk that believe in no replacement for displacement .
