Victor68 Turbocharged January 2, 2012 Share January 2, 2012 Hi, Chevy owners, I have been driving this chev optra for 6.5 yrs. It is a very good ride I must say, other than consumption. Last 2 days, the OH or Over Drive light keeps blinking. It comes and goes but generally nothing much happen. This morning, I was driving down AYE, suddenly the rev went up but the car is not 'engaged' that is the gear did not drive the car. I stopped at the side road and stopped the engine. When I re-starts, I can drive but within seconds, the same happen. I drove to the side road and call AA to tow it to a workshop. Being a holiday, my mechanic is not working. I explained to him over the phone but I am not sure he knows what is happening and would the same happen tomorrow. I suspect it might be some electronic part that is causing this problem. Anyone has such experiences? Thank you ↡ Advertisement

Jefkking Clutched January 2, 2012 Share January 2, 2012 (edited) Ya, Gerabox spoilt already. Ready to fork-out betwwen S$ 4K to S$ 6K for new gearbox (as "Chevvy" parts were costly than Japanese car - Japanese made gearbox around S$ 0.8 to S$ 1.2K for re-con) and try to get an re-con for around S$ 2K if you having tight budget. Victor68 Turbocharged January 2, 2012 Author Share January 2, 2012 wow, that is a big ang pow! But how come when I switch off engine then start again, I can still drive? I try that after the tow truck left me near the workshop. I reverse and then drive to the door step. Hmmm, you guys think it is worth to repair or dump it? Victor68 Turbocharged January 2, 2012 Author Share January 2, 2012 Hi, saw this article while searching the web sites. thought it might be helpful but I have no clue if that was my problem. The symptom is very similar to mine and even my mechanic was asking what is the problem with my car when he test drive this afternoon. Everything seems normal. I will try to find out more tomorrow as I don't want to be driving around without first solving it. I don't know when my car is going to stop! http://www.mychevyclub.com/forums/index.ph...ge;topic=4285.0 Regards
Victor68 Turbocharged January 3, 2012 Author Share January 3, 2012 I made calls to alpine and star automobile. Both 'experts' feel it is going to be costly. With 3.5 yrs, it is not worth keeping it. I wonder if this is one of the few or common. I just wish to share that it is very dangerous. Imagine I am driving at 150 Km in NS highway, and that is exactly what i was doing just a couple of days earlier! I drove to Penang and back. No sign of any trouble till the last few days. Guys do be careful. I had decided to scrap the car.
