That is really funny... If he cash out his house and without buying another one then is ok...

But he cash out his house and buy another house at the same high price ... Back to square one....

The only thing is he may have more cash on hand and with more loans with interest..( include the car and house loan )

lugi lo... Bank more happy.

Turbocharged

Cat A more for the next 6 months is a guesstimate based on the number of Cat A cars scrapped so far.

It will be most probably be more, but,

If I am not wrong, the actual figures from LTA is not out yet.....

There was apparently a buying frenzy over the weekend of 7 and 8 Jan after COE dipped on 5 Jan bidding.

Cycle &Carriage, for example has raised prices of its Kia Cerato Forte by $2K as of 10 Jan.

But the salesman told me that he can hold existing prices for me if I commit by this Sun.

Still got people buy Kia Cerato today? In 2009, it was pre-launch at early $40K. Only Elantra is worth the buy now if prices start dropping!

1 of the bro has predicted that Cat A will increase in quota, base on the scrap figure provided by LTA, i think it will increase it's quota for Feb-Jul 2012.

The small car dealers know of the higher quota.

But they smart to play into the mind of car buyers.

I think those that buy now are those that made money from stocks or properties.

I also know of colleagues who buy recently, because they Feel rich due to their only HDB appreciated in value.

One told me, his only HDB now worth $600++, if he cash out, he will be half-millionaire. So he feels that he is able to afford a new 520 to suit his new status.

1 of my buddy even worse, bought a 4-5yrs old BMW 5 series 2 years back at cheap price.

now feel the 'pain' of the bmw, scrimp here and there, then every time try to scrimp on car park dont want put coupons all that.

But after the Aug deregistration, the number comes down so much. Don't think COE quota will increase for cat A.

Report in BT... read the last 2 para:

Slide in Cat A and B COE numbers may top 20% as LTA cuts H2 growth rate

[sINGAPORE] The quota for certificates of entitlement is expected to shrink further this year based on the current rate of deregistrations.

Cos ppl never seen elantra @ 50k before cos it was not out when COE $2.

This is the same kind of ppl who won't let go of a stock saying it may rise.

But if they have the cash they won't buy the stock.

I see, forte first launched was only about 40K. But elantra first launched price already 90K! :D

While in writing, buyers must take at least 50% loan and in-house insurance, I was also told this "can be discussed and they can be flexible."

So those keen to commit still have room for negotiation.

Probably a good time to commit as prices are expected to rocket once quota is further reduced this year.

COE went down and a dealer raised the price of their car? Huh?

When I currently hold a COE which depreciates at $1,000 a year why would I want to change to a COE that depreciates $4,000 a year? I got better things to do with the residual $3,000, like take a vacation, save it, or invest it.

And are you sure it will "rocket" in the face of a predicted tough year? My gut feel is that the high COE prices are losing steam as there aren't enough cashed up people to sustain it.

If compare apple to apple now, who wants a Forte whch is consider a 3yrs old design when the new Elantra is much better looking. Elantra basic is going for $85K now, few months ago during their 25yrs anniversary promo, it was $84K with $3K subsidy of $250 x 12 instalment rebate effective only $81K

The 1st batch pre-launched elantra was booked at $79,999, not sure did anyone secured their coe/car at this price. I'm waiting for it to go down to $60K to $70K range, I can afford to wait coz I have 2 cars, a 4yrs old and 7yrs old sitting at home.

Perhaps they anticipate demand to spike because of the COE's slide. In any case then, whatever discounts you give is immaterial cos you will still subsequently ask the buyer to top up correct or not?

Actually between forte and elantra, i personally find the design on forte looks better in terms of the overall proportion. As elantra design seems like front too short and backside too big, if you look closer the car looks a bit weird.

Both your cars already consider "old" liao, the most you can wait is only about 2-3 years for the price to drop to 60k-70K. But i doubt elantra price will drop until 60K, maybe 70K plus still can.
