C-K 2nd Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 i got to agree with you again. we can't compare VW with higher brands like Merc or BMW but if we are comparing with Jap brand like Honda. let's make an example, Jetta 1.4 TSI (A): S$115,800 Jetta 1.4 TSI Sport: S$132,300 Civic 1.6 (A): S$106,900 Civic 2.0 (A): S$129,900 Difference (lowest spec.): S$8,900 Difference (highest spec.): S$2,400 Let's skip the cheap roadtax, fast performance, better handling, etc. from the Jetta. Then again, both interior are not as great. If you are a car buyer, which one will you buy? If I don't have much cash to spare & I really plan to use my ride for 7 years or more, I definitely will go for Civic.

Toothiewabbit Supersonic January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 (edited) Been to VW recently, saw and sat in the cabins of the Golf, Jetta, Tiguan n Passat and then left the showroom soon after. To each his own. Some will swear by VW, others will think its over-rated. Edited January 30, 2012 by Toothiewabbit

Expertz 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Author Share January 30, 2012 For reliability sake, choose Jap. DSG juddering issue. mine is an 06 car, going by the forums my car is already more or less due for stuff like a new alternator or perhaps a new compressor or a gearbox replacement. currently no problems as yet, my alternator is slightly weak though i don't think my car is anymore reliable

Nikkei121 Neutral Newbie January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 The blend colour scheme of the VW is quite bad indeed. But VW Sg never positioned the Jetta as luxury model. it is a good family sedan. the DSG is very good indeed. changes gear at very good timing. i am a manual car driver but in the Jetta 2.0 GLi, i find there is absolutely no reason i should resort to manual override. the computer shift the gears so well. the sound proofing is much better than the civic. the seat with leather that though not as luxurious as the BMW or Merc, still offers much better lumbar support than the Civic or Accord. For that price difference between Honda and VW, it's a no brainer. I am not saying Honda is poor. Just that considering the overall, including comfort, engine, image, shapes, Honda needs some serious improvement. VW could do better if it were to compete w more luxurious models. But it is not positioned in the segment. So let's now hold it to a wrong yardstick.

Spicky Neutral Newbie January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 The price you pay for a VW can go for a older 3 years old AUDI / BMW series.
Versatile 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I think you guys must have forgotten a video where VW? CEO personally praise Hyundai for it's interior where it doesn't feel plastic and it last long without any single sound after years of driving. Kiadaw 6th Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I agree the Koreans make really good cars these days, but the price is a big turn off in Europe. Maybe due to Weaker Euro. Every review for Koreans car almost always end with something like, " Its a good car, but for the money, you can get something better". I posted awhile ago that I saw a new rio & was really impress, the interior & exterior is a breath of fresh air. Then I see the price, wow liao leh. You can get a golf for the money, & it won't move much, & so far, I haven't seen a lot on the road. But I guess Korean cars are still reasonably price (in SG context of course), Its the Japaneses car makers that need to buck up big time. If you do not like some reasonably price COnti cars like VW, or Skoda, , at least Koreans make are worth a look. But somehow, still I still see many die hard Japanese car fans. The CEO of Kah Motor must be sleeping very well after reading this post, that there are still so many supporters for the H brand.

13177 Hypersonic January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 Now you know how VW can undercut the Japanese and become the best selling car brand in the world. VW has mastered the art of cheap interior, but yet project a Atas image. I guess VW brand itself already perceived as atas, so interior cheapo or not pple still dont mind.
