quite expensive..I thought just around $1000 per month..if the nurse stay in will more cheaper? so nothing to worry about

This is already pretty cheap. Its a six bedder and non-aircon facility. We are paying this rate cos of no subsidy from govt. My late mum is not entitled to any subsidy due to we will not be able to pass the means testing.

 

If your family able to pass means testing, can probably go down to less than $1,000/month. Check with your social worker. But the other fees like food, diapers and medication, still have to pay in full, no govt subsidy. Medication can provide from your end from govt hospital. If you want them provide, then it will be as charged.

If i remember correctly from the social worker, means testing is Total household income divided by number of ppl in the household. It must be less than $2,000 per person for any govt subsidy to kick-in.

 

If both husband and wife working, mostly wont qualify.

Sorry, I know this post is about how to avoid dementia, but anyone here knows where to find people who are experienced in taking care of people who Already have dementia. It seems that the only way is to send them to a daycare centre which probably cost a lot (at least it's a lot for people with low income like me). I mean if there are any other options i can consider it would meant a lot. Tenks

Both you and user Neutrino suggest Nursing home which is quite the price. For me. What about home nursing tho? I mean are there any options to let people come and take care of the patient in an hourly basis. No daily. It's actually for my friend's older brother. Scared he wants to be at home and not at a nursing home. Hence, the home nursing option :/

Yeah i forgot to mention that I'm staying in Malaysia. And my friend is a Malaysia. This looks like a suitable option. Cuz they got freelancers working there. And most of the people working as a caregiver have educational background. Looks like trustworthy to me.

For the last few rice donation drive, we visited Sunlove Home. You can check with them if they provide home care option.

 

Also i know that St John's Ambulance HQ has opened a brand new Dementia day care centre. You might also want to enquire with them.

 

Professional home nurse is expensive. I dont think there is a cure yet, only can slow down the full onset of Dementia. So there is only so much a professional nurse can help. Need more help from close family members.

then its may be the best option for you then. but pricewise? im not so sure. more affordable than others i think so..

there are still some home nurse that is not really expensive like the one i suggested. dementia patients are really hard to handle sometimes and for close family members that doesnt have experience taking care of them can be really tough. i would prefer hiring home nurse more to taking care of them.

Because definitely cannot do more than 3 of the 6 requirement.

With the full Government subsidy the cost can reduce from S$3500 pm to about S$750 per month and food and diapers are included in this price.

 

There is a drop in place in Ng Teng Fong Hospital iirc.for the Agency for Integrated Care.  The website is not very informative but if you go to the drop in site at NTF you can get a lot of info about Nursing Homes, Home Nursing, cost, subsidies etc etc.

You have to drag a lot of the info out of the staff but it can be worth it.

The staff though are very nice and helpful when they find out your circumstances etc.

 

In the end we didn't use them but I'm putting info down here if MCFers need to investigate possibilites further.

 

We only found out about ACI when my MIL was in hospital and even then the info wasn't readily given by hospital staff.

iirc Means testing is quick and easy as they just ask for CPF records or something like that.

They do all checking online.  Just need to know where patient resides and who else is in household.

 

They can quickly tell you what your subsidy and there fore monthly payment will be.
