For 16 , I think only choice is ku36.

When you said Performance tires, you have to be careful, because most high track focus performance tires compromised in the wet. As for a tires to be good in the rain, it has to have more grooves for water channeling, & more groove is less rubber, hence affect max performance in the dry. Hence the Ultra performance tires have very little grooves, good in darym, bad in wet. Just compare the rain & slick tires in F1.

 

Not to mention high wear rate.

 

I quote my own example. When I was looking for tires for my old ride. AT first I looked at the Ultra performance grade, like Dunlop S1 star, RE11 and R888. But after careful study, & research on the net, like looking up Tirerack.com, I eventually pick up the Goodyear Asymmetric F1 summer tires, as they have good track performance (1 grade down from the Ultra Performance grad), but much slower wear rate, & better in the rain.

 

If you wanted serious lap times for track, & a good tires for daily, its better to have 2 sets of tires (or wheels), otherwise, I personally don't recommended Ultra performance grade as the only options.

Ku36 n z1 star should be ard 200 range.

But I can't find any of them for 17" 225/45. 3 weeks ago.

Rs3 n rsr cfm got stock.

Not very good for performance vehicle. Sdrive is slightly above your average family type tyre imo.

Yea but I'm suggesting they're sort of similiar. Wear wouldnt be good so probably not recommended as a daily. Same goes to AD08.

I would put re001 at (3) though. I dont find them very grippy.

F1 is a good compromise too. I would definitely recommend ps2 (or super sport now), re050a and f1. They're probably the best compromise in terms of dry/wet grip and durability.

I agree with cdior. S001 is in the same range as RE002. Can refer to BS website and also confirmed by tyre shop.

 

I just bought KU36 215/45R17. $175 each. 225 no stock.

Value for money IMO.

can someone help me to understand how to read wear rate? is it that the higher the number, the longer it can last? if so, what is the max reading?

Of course, the higher the wear rate the better; 100 being the lowest standard for all tyres.

However, wear rate varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. A 400 wear rate for a certain brand can be equivalent to a 300 wear rate for another brand.

It depends on the preference of the reviewer.

 

One practical issue with most reviews is that the tyres are tested when new, and not over a long period of usage. For myself, I don't like tyres with soft sidewall as I like tyres with sharp steering response (and hence I choose tyre with stiff sidewalls).

If you change tyres at 40k/2 years, it should not matter unless your are using RE070 (need to change at 30k). I've used max perf tyres for the last 10-11 years, and they can last me till 40k without problems.

Well, it's not really useless. The rating can be used as a comparison between tyres from the same manufacturer.

Yes, the UTQG rating can be found on every tyre sidewall.

The threadwear rating comes first, followed by traction and temperature rating (eg. 400 A A)
