Yuan 6th Gear June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 when u wash ur car, also wash the wipers using sponge n pull thru. u wil see the crazy amt of dirt there. under open air parking, its good practice to lift it up fr windscreen. shd help to prolong the wipers. for replacement, if urs is jap car, jus go giant buy those yasashi $7 a stick wiper, change every half yr. solid! Usually when I wash my car, I will use the wet cloth to clean and wipe off the dirt that congregate at the wiper blade or rubber. I am always surprised by the amount of dirt. Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 I used Rain-X very often, what is the side effect.? I believe in our climate/weather, it forms a layer that attacks the rubber wiper blades

Thedream 3rd Gear June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 just use wet tissue to clean the wiper from time to time. will prolong the worked life. I believe most wet tissues have some perfume which are damaging to rubber.
Porche 5th Gear June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 Seems ok, have to keep the blades clean else rainy days can't clear the windscreen

TatteredTorn Clutched October 22, 2012 Share October 22, 2012 (edited) Many reasons why wipers will judder. If your wiper is brand new, then it's likely the windscreen problem. I've also heard that Rain-X will cost your wipers to judder and I really hate wipers to judder. However, I still use Rain-X occasionally because if you guys realise, your windscreen will tend to form "oil streaks" which reduces your visiblity a lot especially when driving in the morning where there is heavy condensation. Rain-X effectively clears the "oil streaks". I have tried windscreen washing agents of many brands but none can clear the streaks. Anyone can recommend one that works? Cartrek Neutral Newbie February 9, 2013 Share February 9, 2013 Rain-X improves vision. Silicone wipers are great. Not expensive if you are lucky enough to meet ladies selling these at JB petrol stations. Always clean wiper blades. I use soap powder smeared on a damp cloth and wipe the rubber back & forth. Gets rid of all dirt and grime. You can see lots of black liquid dripping down cleaning cloth. Place another cloth underneath it if you dont wish the dirt to stain your bonnet. Putting wipers up in the air when parked in hot sun is good advice. No, it wont warp wiper blade cos it is flexi enough to get back to desired shape. Adjust pressure on wiper blades so that wiping is optimim. You don't want blades to jerk its way to & fro when oscillating (too much tension) and you don't want lack of contact with windscreen (too slack). Inlinefour Twincharged February 9, 2013 Share February 9, 2013 Valeo wiper blades in rainy season. These are made with dual rubber and are considered extremely long lasting and provide best performance in the rainy season. Valeo made in France around $40 plus one pair... But still judder on my windscreen...
Gasguzzler 1st Gear February 10, 2013 Share February 10, 2013 Just to share. There was a period of time I was plagued by juddering wipers too. Once, it was so bad that one wiper broke off from the wiper arm while I was driving in the heavy rain, leaving me with only the passenger side wiper working and a metal arm scratching my windscreen glass on the drivers side - those were new wipers btw. I spent the next couple of weeks researching and trying out various ways to solve the problem. I finally solved the issue and have never had juddering issues for the past 1 year. Here's the solution. Can be done in 10mins: 1) sand down the windscreen with 3m sandpaper (from autobacs kind) and mild car wash solution 2) rinse off 3) clay bar the entire windscreen with mild car was solution 4) rinse off and dry 5) apply autoglym glass polish 6) replace with new wipers In this entire process, use a new cloth. For maintenance, do not use cloth that u have used to wax the car before. Never let wax get onto your windscreen. If U use rain-X, do not use any other windscreen wash solutions in your wiper fluid. Use water only. Avoid wash and wax car shampoos. Just sharing from experience.
Pisces69 6th Gear February 11, 2013 Share February 11, 2013 Silicon wiper blades are good but ex, my last one cost about S$90 and last me about 3.5 yrs. Now I use the normal ones bought from M'sia for just about S$14...... Ya last time i use good rubber wipers change every year. Now use silicon can last 3 yrs. N i buy cheap silicon wipers abt rm15 ea. in jb. Better than those sold in sg for 5 times e price. Hahaha. ↡ Advertisement
