Nzy Twincharged April 8, 2012 Share April 8, 2012 (edited) But if the car moves very slowly, the water on the pads n rotors will still stay wet for a while until it is spun off by wheels' rotation. Even if you tap the brakes it is not going to dry the rotors. For drum brakes I heard that they pump the brakes after going through a deep puddle is to pump the water out. If you are going so slowly that the water can remain on the rotors then you probably don't need to worry even if you have alittle less braking power. lol. Nzy Twincharged April 8, 2012 Share April 8, 2012 was hoping to read whether sudden contraction of rotor will cause it to warp....... I don't think so. If not when you driving then it rains how? The rotors get wet and cool down also will contract. Or when you go car wash. Sometimes can see the wheels have smoke coming out when they spray water on it. Hamburger Hypersonic April 9, 2012 Share April 9, 2012 I don't think so. If not when you driving then it rains how? The rotors get wet and cool down also will contract. Or when you go car wash. Sometimes can see the wheels have smoke coming out when they spray water on it. raining situation is different as the rotor is spinning. But in a car wash, the brake caliper clamps onto the hot rotor with water not able to sips in....thus causing uneven cooling on rotor which may cause it to warp, imo
Elfenstar 3rd Gear April 9, 2012 Share April 9, 2012 Question:- No need to tap our brakes after going thru floods / ponding? They test on distilled water mah, no sediments or oil etc on their test places
Elfenstar 3rd Gear April 9, 2012 Share April 9, 2012 Good info, but until now,i still don't understand why Conti cars brakes have more brake dust than most Japanese cars.??Also most Conti cars brake rotor last only 50-60Kkm,while Japanese car brake rotor can easily lasts above 110Kkm.?? Its the brakepad compound.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear April 9, 2012 Share April 9, 2012 wad are the obvious sign pads are worn apart from visual inspection... noise...vibrations...knocking sound..? Newer pads from reputable companies have an indicator. They start screeching once they go below a certain thickness. ↡ Advertisement
