COE is just flawed. Look at Taxi, why taxi is included together to compete with private car COE.

Actually should have seperate scheme for taxi so that more slot can be free up for private car owners.

Because taxi are used like private cars except that commuters pay for a service to be shuttered to the desired destination. The drivers use them with all flexibility, be it shuttering paying commuters, family or friends. They park in HDB season parking areas just like any private cars and there are no special lanes on the road for taxi. Moreover, taxi helps to 'regulate' the Cat A price level. I do think taxi will be grouped under Commercial vehicles in the foreseeable future.

Maybe set aside cap limit COE just for Taxi the rest COE remains the same.

 

i.e Beside Cat A 1.6l cc and below, Cat B Above 1.6L cc and Open Cat. Perhaps could have 1 more Cat X for taxi. So taxi will not compete with private car owners and that thus lesser the competition for private car owners for COE bidding ( expecially for 1.6l cc and below categories ) .

I don't think group taxi together with commrecial vehicles is a good idea as it may further push up COE for heavy vehicles..

COE for taxi should be in their own seperate category. Grouping it with Group A is just not right. Why not put it together in Group B instead? Let the rich have a feel of how it is like though in all honestly, I don't think it's gonna affect them.

SINGAPORE: More Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) may be made available to motorists in the coming months.

 

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said he has tasked the Land Transport Authority to look into delaying initial plans to cut the vehicle growth rate to 0.5 per cent from the current 1.5 per cent by August.

 

Speaking at the sidelines of an event on Friday morning, Mr Lui said he understands motorists' concerns of rising COE prices.

 

That is why he has asked the LTA to study if there is flexibility in the plans to cut vehicle growth rate to 0.5 per cent.

 

"Knowing that in the second half of 2013, into 2014, and so on, the number of COEs that will be available because of the deregistration of cars reaching the 10-year cycle and so on, will be significantly higher than what it is today," said Mr Lui.

 

"So I've asked LTA to consider two things very carefully, whether we can exercise some flexibility moving from 1.5 per cent to 0.5 per cent and whether we can defer the adjustments on the over-provision of COEs that we have done in 2008 and 2009."

 

LTA is expected to complete its study by the end of the month.

It does help, as by allocating seperate COE Cat for taxis, it reduce competition bidding for Cat A. So end up COE may even reduce for Cat A and maybe even Cat B. Plus when in times of a lot taxi bidding, Cat A will not be much affected.

I wonder if we will evolved to less cars, but lots of scooters, bicycles and other 2 wheel transport in Singapore...? Not sure if this is related, but when I was in HsinChu, the number of scooters on road is way times more than cars on road. Could it be due to vehicle control..? Just a guess..

Not possible. Motobikes is more for people who could not afford cars. So you think many car owners want to downgrade cars to bike where they could afford to buy car??

Agree. Its just my guess that as the overall cars population on road decreases, some of these car owners might just turn to 2 wheeled since they can't afford a car on road by then.

 

Nowadays, to be able to afford a car is something way out of reached for me. Can only dream..

I think more will be squeeze out by taking taxi. Taxi revenue increase. [laugh] Too much confort for downgrade cars to bikes. Some rather not to have any private transport than have bike due to safety reason also.

True.. But if the car owners cease to owning a car and select Taxi, then wouldn't the taxi population increase due to the demand..? And if the Taxi population increase, then the cars on road will also increase, then, its just sort of converting private cars to Taxi while the population of the cars on road is maintain..?
