This car obviously is a Old Russian Lada Model, be it new and old cars engines, overheating can happen with least expected mishap.

A car mechanic told me that latest Honda Accord has a automatic safety-cut-off to prevent serious damages during engine overheating, any Mcfer here to share these good-to-be-safe useful design in other car models and engines as well ? [thumbsup]

The dashcam video captured the Lada car explosion(@0:20) in a slow moving traffic jam, fellows regular mcf drivers are reminded to excercise cautions to open bonnet during engine overheats caught in massive jam on our expressway as well as in woodlands causeway.

Stupid to open a running engine radiator cap..

Your title said smoking engine. If its visible smoke...do not open the bonnet. Turn off your engine immediately and call 995 or if overseas their emergency number. Smokes means there is a fire..if you open the bonnet at that time...fresh supply of oxygen will ignite the flames...

Did she open the radiator cap?????

Omg

Yup my previous trip to GH

Saw many cars open bonnet to cool down overheated engine

Only got one joker with a wira

He opened the cap n let the water splashed out like a fountain

But I think he is aware that's y he ran behind after opening

So I asked my mech last trip to ws

They told me normally engine cfm up lorry

If that owner did that

I still wondering y that guy opened the cap n not letting it cool down

Regards

why dont you open the bonnet while running the engine and see if you can detect the source of the " burnt smell " ....the last time i smelled burning smell in my compartment was the bulb inside my 3rd brake light touched part of the plastic housing and that area melted, hence the burnt smell.

Mine overheated once, coolant fluid gushed from somewhere under bonnet.

Smoke, well not burning smoke, just loads of steam coming out..

Lucky happened after exit PIE rush hour. Had to stop & let engine cool down, top up water, off AC, stop go -never redlined temp- a few times before reaching my WS.

My car doesn't have much overheat safety features other than temp gauge and the dreadful light indicators.

So every now and then, have to gaze on the gauge when stop at traffic junction. :o

5yrs old, preowned.

In fact, the cap was fine but the radiator rotten cui and had to be replaced. changed to a bigger one, as well as the rubber hoses too. Was surprised it even survived my Desaru trip a week before.

Being an engineer (as if i know a lot, lol) i suspected the water pump has seen its better days, so in the end did major service, timing belt package at one go.

Saved time because i need to do it anyway.

Had an experience with W210, in law forgot to replace radiator cap after refilling. Drove all the way up to Genting from Melaka, by the time reach mountain top, the water dries up. Smoke coming out from the rad cap mouth.

The thing is, he fill it up when it's hot, quite harmful to the engine block, of course there are some minor fountain.

Unless one knows how to repair a breakdown car.

Or even has the tools on the road to service the car.

If not then opening the car bonnet is useless. What does one expect to see?

A naked lady or missing engine?

I don't see people opening up their fridge or washing machine or HP or Laptop when it does not work.

Why should anyone open up the car bonnet? It's a weird phenomenon.

Hi, Bro Spidey10,

Last Monday morning on 18th.June 2012, I was driving wife to her office and smells some sorts of burning with little bit of smokes emitting from my engine compartment, pulled over at Jurong West SPC and waited 10 minutes to allow car cools down before opening my car bonnet.

Found my brake fluid tank gone empty, quickly checked all 4 wheels brake host, behind wheel hub on the driver side front wheel was oilly and I'd noticed the brake host leaks brake fluid on to the wheel hub assembly and front drive-shaft with heavy burning smells, immediately topping up Dot 4 and drove extremely carefull slowly to car workshop to replace new brake host.

Please check your engine & under carriage relevant fluid host for any leaking that could have caused the burning sensations, hope it dose help to find out the source.

Haha I think most ppl open the bonnet thinking it will cool down the smoking hot engine bay.

Thanks Bro- checked brake fluid - ok, checked radiator water level ok, open radiator cap to check water - ok(mind you - left overnight, when it's cold). even top up the wiper water - ok..engine oil - ok level.

But did not check undercarriage for any plastic stuck to the xzos!!! this one will get the AD to check this weekend if the smell persist.
