I live about 20km from my office. Nowadays just cycle to work. Takes me about 1hr if I don't push myself too hard. Roughly 10min longer than if I were to drive. Almost converted my car to OPC but in the end decided not too cuz the savings is so little and can't have the freedom of the car.

You might as well sell off your car and keep the money under your pillow! :D

Hey guys!!! due to current car market. I thought of putting my car at home and cycle to work. Does anyone does that? please share your story!!!!

I have been doing that this mid-year school holidays, and now got addicted to use 52t X 14t the whole journey (with max. of 47km/H).

Kindly call for Bro Goodcarbuyer to come in, he is a hard core Bicyclist with plenty of his experiences and stories to share with us. [cool]

Many thanks for the introduction. Practical knowledge of the Highway Code useful for road safety. The Bus Lanes are restricted to buses and bicycles (source: LTA). Cycle in single file between the two yellow lines parallel to the kerb. Han signals a must to avoid confusion/miscommunication/accident. Always look out for danger while cycling especially. Avoid cycling during hours of poor visiblility (some drivers got mild night-blindness can not see us). Choose route that have minimum junctions (some people got the culture to go through red light). Always use red rear blinker(s) and white flashing front lights.

Use road bike for time saving and less tiring efforts. Avoid cycling with peak motorised traffic direction. Example: use PCN, Bus Lanes, and the likes.

I find other bikes tedious to use for commuting.

I tried it once around 1 month ago and loved it. Took me 40mins to cycle the 10km from home to office.. around the same time as driving.

This is until my gf put a stop to it.. because one of our friend was knocked down by lorry and passed away while cycling.. [:(]

Actually I am also concern about this. Already wrote to the Authority to review and amend the current Highway Code to make it safer for cycling.

Avoid cycling in the same direction as peak motorised traffic

Avoid cycling during peak motorised traffic hour

Avoid cycling on the road if we got limited cycling skill. Example: sometimes may need to stall and stand bike for more than a few seconds to avoid accident. Hopefully adequate skill to cycle with puncture front or rear tyre. Example: to avoid falling and get run over when tyre punctured.

Cycle to work? Must depends where you stay and where your workplace is lo. If workplace and home quite a distant, i rather take public transport better. [:p]

I used to cycled the 31km on Saturdays from AMK to Gul Lane when working there. Do not be ambitious. Use more relaxing gear ratios like 53t X 16t or 17t for begineers/first trip.

I agree, but not when your workplace is a 10min ride away. No point in spending top dollars.

Got nice bicycle no girl see, got car only girl surely see.

Actually my concern for not buying more expensive bike is security against theft when left by the roadside. My current bike hardly appeal to theft
