Wishcumstrue 6th Gear June 28, 2012 Share June 28, 2012 Here is your chance to share your idea and voice your frustration on current transportation policies to LTA. LTA is now embarking on another 5-year plan to review and update its 2013 Masterplan There are 3 discussion topics: - How can we improve your public transport experience? - How can we make better use of scarce road space in land-constrained Singapore? - How can we create an inclusive transport system, and one that supports environmental sustainability and liveability? http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg/ltmp ↡ Advertisement
Gee 1st Gear June 28, 2012 Share June 28, 2012 Would they accede? Being skeptical imho could be just another wayang to justify some plans already been decided. Like promoting being sustainable green but denying tax rebate for that Tesla Roadster. I know some EV local coy struggles, some unis still on research stage while Tesla a finished product at doorstep got booted out. Now they have Model S, where's our tax payer funded research at? I know It's not the whole picture of a transport system, but if the standard & regulations are not sound, what's the point? As if, how many voices actually being heard and materialized? Philipkee Twincharged June 28, 2012 Share June 28, 2012 To whom it may concern, I have a few suggestions for your perusal. 1) In the mornings, west bound trains to joo koon tend to be emptier so some of the trains could terminate at jurong east interchange and head back east. This will relieve congestion at jurong east interchange and at the same time allow people from clementi onwards to board the train since the trains tend to be packed to the brim after leaving jurong east. 2) Bring back the trains that go from woodlands and terminate at pasir ris. If this is not feasible, at least let the trains terminate at buona vista instead. After all, a lot of people debark at buona vista. 3) Increase COE quota for Cat A (since they tend to be bread and butter cars). Increase the COE to let's say 1000 with the condition that at least 700 or so of the cars MUST BE OFF PEAK. This gives people the flexibility to drive to work if they can go early in the morning and so on. This can be done simply by rejecting the bids of the 301st and beyond regular car COE applications. 4) Suggested before but want to try again. Every regular car that does not go through any ERP gantry during peak hours for one calender week will be entitled to 5 dollars off road tax. This means that AT MOST a regualr car owner can save 260 dollars a year on road tax and that is if he drives a regular car just like an off peak car for an entire year. TYhe money lost in road taxes can be more than easily made up by more COEs. 5) Allocate let's say 100 COEs at a flat rate of 10000 dollars only. You can put this in a special category or join it with other categories. How does this work? Those who want the cheap COE apply for it and if they are the first 100 every cycle, they will get it. If they are the 101st, they will be in the queue and get it in the next cycle. Those who cannot wait will have to simply go to the "normal" category and pay for it which is what is happening now but the benefit is that those who are willing to wait will get their cheap car eventually. If no one wants to wait and this category is "neglected" well I am sure people will take advantage of it if they realise there is no queue. To prevent abuse of the system, the COE in this category can be tagged to a person's IC (no more than one car per person accross all categories and so on). Hope to hear from you. Hope i can get a reply and update here.

Tcx607 4th Gear June 29, 2012 Share June 29, 2012 (edited) On the COE issue, I would think individual should bid for their COE. AD or car dealer should not bid for COE on customer behalf. Such, the transparency of intend to bid COE will reflect more accurate desire of getting the right price $$$. On the traffic management issue, LTA should carry more survey on the busy road and conjested road during the peak hours. At least, the traffic lights should program to cater for peak hour management. Most of the time, the traffic lights becomes the obstacle for the flow of traffic instead of manageing the traffic. Vehicles at junction starts and stop requires more time to get the momentum during moving off. While the traffic light timing did not cater for the enough interval which eventually causing B-line of traffic jam. We do not need rocket science and calculation to justify this. I hope the public should write and feedback to LTA so that they have enough reason to take immediate action. No feedback - No action. That's is LTA Edited June 29, 2012 by Tcx607
SimonTan 2nd Gear June 29, 2012 Share June 29, 2012 I suggest a strictly weekends n off peak car. Can only drive after 8pm and till 7am on weekdays.Full day on weekends. The catch is no need to pay the COE. This will encourage all to go to office before 7am, and go home only after 8pm. If caught, the owner will be fined at the prevailing QP, if owner cannot pay, then the car must be scrapped immediately.
JackRabbit 3rd Gear June 29, 2012 Share June 29, 2012 There are 3 discussion topics: - How can we improve your public transport experience? - How can we make better use of scarce road space in land-constrained Singapore? - How can we create an inclusive transport system, and one that supports environmental sustainability and liveability? To improve public transport: 1. increase pay of bus drivers to a reasonable amount to attract Singaporean drivers - eg. basic pay $2000 (before OT) 2. Ensure proper training for bus drivers, especially in Safety. (perhaps have an ITE course for bus drivers, which may include some basic maintenance, planning and safety subjects) 3. Reduce the intake of foreign drivers, since with good pay more singaporeans will opt to become bus drivers. 4. Relook bus schedules - increase frequency accordingly, especially for popular trunk routes. 5. Include bus routes alongside train routes - as there must be alternatives - esp since trains are no longer reliable, and it would help offload in case of train breakdowns. 6. ensure there are buses after train service stops, perhaps on fixed schedules, so that people do not necessarily have to depend on expensive taxi services. Ungtiong 2nd Gear June 29, 2012 Share June 29, 2012 1) lower COE but very high ERP and very high carpark fees. Majority of driver dont go to city area at all and dont jam the highway at all so why should they pay for it. 2) Increase bus fare.....sorry but if gov insist on keeping bus fare low, then the local drivers, mechanics and all the support workers will get low pay or have jobs replaced by foreign workers BUT..... 3) increase frequency of trains...during peak and crowded timing. Air Traffic controllers can shorten the time between plane landing during peak period, but the MRT schedule so rigid...as if MRT schedule more complex and more dangerous than plane landing. Super popular Bus services also increase frequency and express options (some solutions are quite simple as some bus drop ALL their passengers at certain locations...) Aaronlkl Supersonic June 29, 2012 Share June 29, 2012 Well done. Keep it coming and send your constructive ideas and suggestions to LTA. I drafting mine also. Honestly, nothing much could be done on this issue otherwise would have solved long time ago... The only solution is to migrate to another country for good. Singapore is too crowded already! Can't even breathe!!! Good luck people! ↡ Advertisement
