    Kia Sorento 2013

Hi, I am a new Kia Sorento 2013 owner, 2.2 CRDi model, silver. Formerly driving a Skoda Superb I for the past 7 years, built like a tank, fuel economical and powerful with 1.8T under the hood. Wanted a SUV all along and finally chose the KIA Sorento 2013 model in Singapore due to several reasons. Good: 1. Korean built has improved tremendously, quality and class. 2. Award winning diesel engine. - 436NM Torque, 194HP, Eco-friendly and if you are like me, someone who drives a lot, it is cost savings back to you. 3. Features, FEAtures, FEATURES!! - Tons of it, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, HID, AWD, Park Assist (found in VW range, includes, Skoda, Audi and VW cars), Dual Climate Zone, Reverse Camera, Moon Roof, plus Sunroof...19" wheels...etc. 4. Design - base on the individual, but I really like the design. Former Audi chief designer. What can be improved: 1. Hard plastics - dashboard. This can be improved. 2. Northing else. In summary hope to say hello to fellow KIA folks and a shout out to other Sorento owners out there. Cheers! PS: My first Korean car!
  3. All of MediaCorp's seven free-to-air channels will go fully digital by December 2013. Channel 5, Channel 8, Suria and Vasantham will be transmitted in HD by then, while the remaining three (Channel NewsAsia, Okto and Channel U) will be in HD by 2016. The move marks another milestone in Singapore's roadmap in making the digital switchover, where analogue signals will be completely switched off by 2020. To enjoy digital TV, the Media Development Authority said no action is required from those who currently subscribe to pay-TV with StarHub or SingTel, as they already receive the channels digitally. Those without pay-TV can continue using their current TV sets but they will need to purchase an antenna and a DVB-T2 digital receiver. However there is no need to rush for the receivers now, as they are likely to be made available in Singapore only from March or April 2013. To reap the full benefits of digital TV and the high definition channels that will be transmitted, viewers may want to opt for a new digital HDTV set. MDA said even when the free-to-air channels are transmitted digitally at the end of 2013, analogue transmissions will continue. The simulcast period is to give ample time for viewers to make the necessary adjustments to embrace digital TV. MDA said it will be working closely with MediaCorp, major manufacturers and electronics stores on an educational campaign to help consumers prepare for the digital switchover. MediaCorp said: "As the planned switchover to digital broadcasting is scheduled to complete only by December 2013, we will make an announcement when more details become available towards the second half of next year." http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1208529/1/.html

  11. A new Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) will apply to all new cars, taxis and newly imported used cars with effect from Jan 1, 2013, the Land Transport Authority said on Wednesday. This followed announcements made by Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew in Parliament. Under CEVS, all new cars and imported used cars with low carbon emissions of less than or equal to 160g carbon emissions per kilometre (CO2/km) will qualify for significant rebates of between $5,000 and $20,000, which will be given as an offset against the vehicle's Additional Registration Fee (ARF) payable. Cars with high carbon emissions equal to or more than 211g CO2/km will incur a corresponding registration surcharge between $5,000 and $20,000. The CO2/km performance data for each car model will be provided on mandatory information labels at car showrooms. To encourage taxi companies to adopt lower emission models for their fleet, the CEVS rebate and registration surcharge for taxis is set at 50 per cent higher compared to cars, between $7,500 and $30,000. source: http://www.straitstimes.com/Parliament/Sto...ory_774890.html source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1187568/1/.html

  13. wow!!! SINGAPORE: Civil servants will get a year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 1.1 months, with lower-wage officers getting an AVC of at least $1,600. Some 1,300 civil servants earning less than $1,460 will benefit from the minimum AVC payment of $1,600. For example, an officer earning a monthly salary of $1,200 will get a year-end AVC of $1,600. This is $280 more than the $1,320 he would be getting at 1.1 months of his monthly salary. All civil servants will also get the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA) of one month, to be paid in December along with the AVC. The Public Service Division announced this on Thursday. Its statement said: "The Singapore economy grew by 5.8% on a year-on-year basis and 1.3% on a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter annualised basis in the third quarter of 2013. "Based on the Ministry of Trade and Industry's forecast, Singapore's GDP growth is expected to be 3.5% to 4% for 2013, supported by the slight pickup in the global economy and resilient domestically-oriented sectors like construction and business services. "Against this economic backdrop, civil servants will get a year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 1.1 months, with lower-wage officers getting an AVC of at least $1,600. This signals the Government's continued commitment to help lower-wage workers." - CNA/ir last yr if i rem it was 0.7? consperm... http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2684419-civil-servants-to-get-year-end-bonus-of-07-month/
  14. I witnessed this accident right in front of my eyes while standing at my office window. The Trailer rammed into the back of the dark blue Mitsubishi Lancer and pushed it for a good 10m into the first lane. Can't tell if it was a lane-switch mistake. See pics.
  15. Hi MCF-ers, just need to ask this question to get it over my mental calculations. Im driving a BMW 316i for close to 2years now (since Nov 2014) and im looking to change to another ride with a larger interior space (MPV / SUV / Stationwagon). I searched through Sgcarmart and find that some 2013 cars are quite "value for $$". My current monthly installments (5years loan) is about $1.6k. The 2013 cars i shortlisted, monthly installments ranges from $1.15k - $1.2k for 7years loan. I know i am a itchy backside person having changed a few cars within 10years of driving. so i think i might change cars normally 2-3years of ownership. I was looking at Audi A6 Avant or some Conti/Jap SUVs price ranging from $125k-$140k. Depre is around 16-17k/year. I think depreciation will not matter to me since i most probably wont drive the full 10years. As we all know, 2013 was record breaking for COE prices. Most of the 2nd hand cars i saw had $93k COE and the prices listed are now almost 40% off the then listed prices (not sure of any discount or what when 1st owner bought) for a short 3years usage. Can any helpful soul enlighten me? Thanks very much!

    2013 Toyota Mark X

  17. I'm taking my family to Perth during the above mentioned period and this would be a self drive holiday. I have a total of 8 pax (5 adults & 3 children aged 3, 6 & 9). Planning to pick up the MPV at Perth Airport and was looking at rental websites from Thrifty, Budget and Avis with Thrifty being the cheapest. Also considering a Toyota Commuter minibus. This is my virgin self drive holiday so would appreciate advise from all who have been and driven there like which is the best vehicle rental company you experienced with and the things to lookout for while driving there. Also I'm confused with the additional costs that the rental website like excess reduction, loss damage waiver and "protection" packages. Any of these that I should take or these are not necessary? So fire away...
