Altivo 3rd Gear September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 Falklands is about 12000 km away from Britain, and 1500 km away from Argentina. Argentina has asserted that the Falkland Islands are Argentinean territory. Britain claimed that the islands were British. Do you agree that the British claiming of sovereignty over Falklands is similar to the PRC claiming of certain islands in South China Sea being Chinese territory? Another example is the Christmas Island located just 500 km south of Indonesia and about 2600 km north of Perth. At Australia's request, the United Kingdom transferred sovereignty of Christmas Island to Australia; in 1957, the Australian government paid the government of Singapore

Hotshot85 4th Gear September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 I think China acting up might be for pride reasons. Yes they are far becoming a bully, that i agree. However, objectively, w/o the backing of the US military, the JDF doesn't stand a chance in hell. They got more people than you got bullets, and more bombs than you have land. Vs japan that is. How many missiles can the Patriots intercept? Imagine a salvo of 200 cruise missiles at the same time, from mobile launchers, from ships, from submarines, from missile batteries, and fixed locations from Mainland China. Overwhelm the 'missile shield' in no time. Thought they've got Gundams and Valkyries to help with the defense hehe

Silver_blade Turbocharged September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 I though one of the islands or small group of islands belonged to a Jap family since around 1900's and they had factory there still around the 40's. It was recently sold to Jap gov. So shouldn't Jap gov own the portion they just bought? Anyway, I don't think this is going to be an easy thing to solve unless all parties agree to let IJC handle it. Each also claims all or some of the islands are theirs. But none has administered the islands for over 100yrs...except that part that belonged to a Jap family. CKP 3rd Gear September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 (edited) I though one of the islands or small group of islands belonged to a Jap family since around 1900's and they had factory there still around the 40's. It was recently sold to Jap gov. So shouldn't Jap gov own the portion they just bought? Key dates in the dispute over the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea, controlled by Japan but also claimed by China and Taiwan: - 15th-16th centuries: Chinese books, published in 1403 and 1534 during the Ming Dynasty, mention Diaoyu in chronicling journeys through the island area. - 1895: The Japanese government annexes a group of five uninhabited islands and three rocks as part of Okinawa on January 14 on the grounds that they have never been controlled by any other country. 1896: The Japanese government leases the island group to Japanese entrepreneur Tatsushiro Koga. Koga builds plants to process bonito fish and albatross feathers, later employing up to 280 workers. - 1918: Koga dies and his son Zenji takes over his business. - 1932: The Japanese government sells four of the islands to Zenji Koga. - 1940: Koga abandons the business, leaving the islands uninhabited again. (Islands abandoned near due to failed business and war) - 1945: Japan surrenders to the US-led allied nations at the end of World War II. The islands remain under US occupation as part of Okinawa until 1972. - 1972-1985: Koga sells the islands in individual transactions to the Kurihara family, which runs a trading house and owns land throughout Japan. - 1978: About 100 Chinese fishing boats sail close to the islands. A Japanese nationalist group builds a lighthouse on Uotsuri, one of the islands. (In 2005, the lighthouse is handed over to the Japanese government.) - 1996: The nationalist group builds another lighthouse on another of the islands. Several activists from Hong Kong dive into waters off the islands on a protest journey. One of them drowns. - 2002: The Japanese ministry of internal affairs starts renting three of the four Kurihara-owned islands. The other is rented by the defence ministry. Sosaria Twincharged September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 Seems the country with 5000 yrs culture is as childish as the Middle Easterners. Smash cars, burn factory, loot shops over some troll job. If it comes to blows, my money is on the JDF Also funny that they get angry over another country when their own govt is full of corruption. But of course in a land where money is God, opportunists sense business opportunities. Shout Diaoyu belongs to China for 15% discount. Shout Japan belongs to China for 20% discount. Garang Audi dealer says "Must eliminate the Japs even if China is covered with graves, Must take back Diaoyu Islands even if China becomes barren" No need so difficult lah, just cover Chinese roads with Audis and VWs to kill off Toyotas and Hondas You don't know this is how it goes? The China govt themselves is worried sick over these mass protests. One minute the mob may be anti-Japan, and the next, suddenly turn their focus on domestic issues... the Commies are most scared of this happening. As for the China people, actually they are just venting their frustrations about domestic issues, like corruption, etc. as you said - on a safe target, i.e. the Japs. Actually why the China people have so much resentment bottled up inside them is because they are not free to talk about the problems in their own country. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 That is not the Iraqi air force insignia. That is the UAE's F-16. Even the link states that it is a Block 60 UAE aircraft. You are correct. The F16s are only part of the USD 11 billion deal signed in 2008, which also include tanks (M1?) , wheeled LAV, APCs, armored cars, armed recon helicopters, C-130 etc. All for Oil in exchange - no US-dollar cash. CKP 3rd Gear September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 You got your info from this site? Thanks for sharing the other side of the same coin. And so? Is the information and record inaccurate, dodgy or fraudulent? Do you have evidence to show? "Other side of the same coin" is obviously neither a argument nor evidence. It is a meaningless and non constructive cliche. It is only normal for the Japanese to present such evidence; likewise, one expects the Chinese to be presenting the evidence of their own prior discoveries. Sosaria Twincharged September 17, 2012 Share September 17, 2012 (edited) JUSt dun get it why Korea and China wun allow the matter to be handle by International Court as the Jap proposed. Because the islands belonged to China since centuries ago... There are even historical records, not held in China, that backs their claim. The islands were only forcibly taken over by the Japs at the turn of the century when China was weak and bullied by the major powers. The Japs held the islands till the end of WW2. At the end of the war, by right, the islands should've been returned to China - standard procedure and agreement that all conquered territories returned to their original owners. But surprisingly the Nationalist govt in China, headed by Chiang Kai-Shek at that time, missed out on these islands - probably because by then they were very occupied with fighting the Communist Red Army. The USA, being the "big brother" in that region at the end of the war, could see that the end was coming for Chiang's Nationalist govt, and very likely decided to keep quiet and retain the disputed islands as part of Jap territory, to form a defensive chain against Communist China that was going to take over the mainland pretty soon. And that really happened a couple of years later, and the beginning of the Cold War. But bottom-line is, you can see that the islands ended up being Jap territory only through these manipulations, and no historical backing.
