Yes maintain original, those that pay penalty due to high emission also doesn't enjoy higher parf rebate later when they scrape.

You mean green cars have higher PARF rebates when they scrap ?

Sorry....I still thinking as...

Green vehicle register has rebates up to 15K (that is coming out from their OMV) and at the end of 10 yrs...if they OMV was 25K...they are left with 10K only.

Non green vehicle has no rebate...kenna penalty say 5K. If the car OMV is also 25K....end of 10 years...its still 25K rite ? (just that when one buys a non green car...they pay the penalty)

Meaning to say, if a car was initially bought using the CEVS rebate, the PARF value will be lower than those whom did not use it.

My question is, in future, does all second hand car buyers have to diligently check which cars have a "higher" PARF value? For the same model, sellers will probably mark up their prices regardless of their lower PARF value, hoping to attract "not-so-careful" buyers. It's going to be messy in the second hand car market!

Those in neutral band (which is quite a lot of cars actually) there will be no difference from now.

Those that incur penalty (mostly big and powerful cars), you won't get extra when you scrap.

You guys still don't know how this govt works?

They give you a drumstick first, but they expect a whole chicken back from you in the end!

After that get the pot from you, followed by the hob, then kitchen top, etc...

The rebate is there. Why you all say govt bluff you? It's the dealers that are only reducing prices a little and makaning your rebate.

Its all about up front cost, the "saving" is based the view that you need not pay what is required to be paid during the purchased of the car. I.e. reduce the total price of the car, but in the end there is no much "saving" because when u scrap, you get back a lower PARF. This pay less take back less.. so cancel out each other

Cars with penalty need to pay additional on the upfront cost, and OMV remain the same. This is pay more take back same, so there is a penalty for cars that does not have CEVS rebates.

If that is the case...then buy red band one is worth it what...simi penalty.

Lets take OMV as equal...

Green band OMV 25K. Rebate 15K

End of 10 years 25-15 = 10K PARF 50% 5K left

Red band OMV 25K Penalty 5K

End of 10 years 25K OMV. PARF 12.5K...deduct the 5K still got 7.5K

At least stuck with a red band should be fun car...as opposed to getting stuck with a boring green car for 10yrs saving 2.5K or 250 bucks a year !!

Not true, only when their combine engine + motor above certain power then they start paying higher road tax. Estima is one such case.

For normal prius, they are paying normal car road tax which is based on just the engine CC....

in another word, gohment expect rich to pay more [;)]

cash it in baby ! [whip]

I understand la. You really pay less with the rebate. If you self import you see all the savings. It's you people who do not understand and make a fuss out of it. The scrap of 50% of ARF paid has been going on for so long. The 15k rebate translates to 7.5k savings if you drive all the way and if your car OMV is higher that 20k. Still pay less with than without rebate. Nobody said that you really save 15k.

The other plus point if you decide to renew COE at 10 years, you lose less of your parf.

Green cars in Singapore cost $155m in tax breaks

Number that qualified for emissions scheme 3 times more than expected

By Christopher Tan, Senior Correspondent

A scheme to encourage consumers to buy "greener" cars has resulted in tax breaks for far more cars than the Government expected.

In the first 18 months of the Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS), nearly 60 per cent of new cars sold qualified for the tax breaks.

Cars are entitled to the tax breaks if their carbon emissions fall under a certain level.

The rebates, ranging from $5,000 to $20,000, translated to more than $155 million in taxes forgone - three times more than envisaged.

Why the latest news report says this is a tax break? The rebate actually come from lowering the PARF value.
