OPC is deducted from COE if not wrong...

For OPC, they deduct from both COE and ARF. They will deduct the $17k rebate from COE first, and then the ARF. Nowadays with the COE so high, the rebate will be deducted fully from COE.

So the savings\rebate is actually offset from the omv ? if so then there is no real savings at all, as you pay less but end up getting back less also. what a farse !

You know and I know how the Govt works la. No such thing as free meal one.

in addition, hybrid car needs to pay higher road tax....based on engine capacity + motor rating...sigh! [bigcry]

Not true, only when their combine engine + motor above certain power then they start paying higher road tax. Estima is one such case.

For normal prius, they are paying normal car road tax which is based on just the engine CC....

Question...

If green rebates they take away from OMV

What about those without rebates ? They pay extra to register the cars...but their OMV intact ?

Yes maintain original, those that pay penalty due to high emission also doesn't enjoy higher parf rebate later when they scrape.

Neutral Newbie

Yes, CEVS is to encourange users to go towards greener cars, but because lots of cars which are already under the CEVS band only receive their rebate this year which means COE are being pushed up again due to the rebate. It's an example of left pocket to right pocket, and worst, those car that doesn't fall under the CEVS band have their prices pushed even further north.

If govt really wanna encourage green, they should use other methods such as road tax rebate etc.

Sadly, the bottom line is that our vehicle tax methodology is out of wack. Unnecessary complications added to it; as good as smoke screen.
