Looks like a basic car with no extras . Simple and efficient. I am not a Toyota fan boy but I assume there is a reason why people pick Toyota even in Korea they pick them.

Simple reason , looks good doesn't mean won't spoil. The more electronic gadgets there are in a car in theory you would have a higher chance of spoiling . That said , basic car selling for 100k isn't attractive . Similarly to me a kimchi selling at near 100k is trash as well.

I am positive that COE would drop to proces below 20k and it would be good for everyone . To me a 100k bb car isn't attractive , I can easily get a 2nd hand conti with a lower depreciation . For those which compare the car to Korean cars which have improved from their "junk" status. Yeah they improve a lot but they probably need another 10 years of reliablity to match people's impression of a simple and reliable Toyota.

I have believed I have seen 2 toyotas driven to scrap without any problems . That said I am not saying there aren't lemons but I believe as long as cars are maintain properly they shouldn't spoil. The same cannot be said of kimchi bb cars, just look the reports , self cracking windscreens to paintworks which fades over 4 years and outdated iPhone sockets that cannot be replaced and will remain sitting on the car for the remaining years of its useful life. Enuff said.

Those kimchi trolls which are created to messed jap cars forums will see me often. To me , I thought due to the recent regulations , lesser trolls . But it seems like these trolls are always around trying to belittle other makes to make their drives more value for money. 2012 car of the year Equus , end up why don't bring waves to Singapore ? Simple , MIK supporters cannot afford them. Not that the car isn't attractive but people are just not impressed by the stuff it offers for its prices. Singaporean still have the mentality that Korean cars are merely cheaper choices to the other bb makes which are slight more expensive .

Haha self denial. Just a simple fact why aren't sales showing an improved number in Korean makes despite being cheaper the so called expensive bb cars? To me it isn't wise to dump a year's income on any ride , maybe some other makes but never a kimchi .

In a balance market, a typical C class cost about 3-4 times at least compare to a b&B vios or similar makes, so it make sense to buy a vios. But when the difference is like about 50% or som like in Sinagpore, you look at what you get for the money on vios, & then say the c class, it doesn't make as much sense to buy a vios.

B4 I start, I am a conti-owner, and prior to thatI was a Jap owner. Lets be fair, this is a Vios thread and the new Vios is a joke. Btw, in the new VIOS, the 4 speed gear box and the engine technology was from the last Vios. So the only thing they are changing is ths chasis and perhaps electronics. What did you say about looks and electronics gadget again?

Lets be fair the K supporters are saying the vios is ugly and not value for money. Both are knock out truths. You quoting the Cerato Forte windscreen issue that happened when the last gen Forte was launched. It was solved. Guess what the new Forte is launching in a few months time. We can also quote the worldwide recalls Toyotas have in the last few years. Pls move on with time, and use facts rather rather than resorting to ""Korean car owners are poor'" when a 100k COE stops you from buying a new car, because there's always someone richer than you.

Finally, I test drove the Elantra, Kia Optima, Civic, DS4, Golf, Jetta, Giuletta, Honda Insight, Camry before I bought my new car. The only Toyota that does not look like it has Geely designers is Camry and Nissans all look like rubbish --except the GTR (you can start bashing me for being a poor man who can only buy bread and butter contis). Guess what, no car is perfect, but only the Camry and Civic failed to have a single pull factor for me to consider them.

Finally. Reliability and FC of Jap cars:

- They are reliable because their drive train and engines are changing very incrementally if at all. If Samsung and Sony keep making CRT TVs and 3G phones, you can bet those phones will overcome their teething issues and be super reliable in time. Why are people buying Smart phones with all the reliability issues? A $10 Quartz Casio is also reliable. Try telling a Rolex guys his mechanical movements are not reliable and needs winding...

- FC. Look at the body weight. If the Koreans choose to wrap their cars with the kind of metal the Jap makers do, I bet the fuel consumption will be close. In fact, with the better 6 speed drive trains, maybe the Koreans will edge it. The Optima and the Elantra I tested has conti-like heft for their doors. They just need to work on the Engines to match VW's TSI and Fiat's multiair and they will have the same FC as the conti's.

Just in case I get misunderstood , I am a current owner of a conti and 2 jap cars . I would probably be changing one of the jap cars to a hybrid diesel which I am aiming at towards the end of the year. So I am probably game enough to say there are people richer than me , but probably those that are richer would have a higher chance to pick other makes than to pick a kimchi. By the way the japs are already into hybrid biz long time ago if you wanna compare fc , the kimchis are still playing catch up.

That said , you are still comparing this basic model to the souped up models offer by the kimchis. The models which you should compare to are the axios and Allion range cars which offer an overall better comparision to what is offer by the kimchi range . If you wanna compare a vios you should be looking at their aveo range or the 1.5 litre segments.

In terms of metal , since when do you see a kimch bbi model which doesn't get crumpled into junk in an accident , most bb cars have the same outcome so comparing metals on the basic models is simply rubbish. You want compare model , why not compare the older mercs or volvos to the kimchis ? Simple fact compare the Toyota crown to kimchi sonata.

Another point that I will like to point out is simply the fact you highlighted consumer electronics , the issue is kimchis are winning merely due to price not technical specs . Anyway this can debated at a latter stage. I am just saying that I do own a Casio and have being using it since young , it doesn't mean I cannot afford a patek or a submariner. The fact is a watch has different purpose and can r used in different times. Same applies for cars. You are just assuming that I can only afford one. Then that's not my problem. You are simply telling us that you are picking one choice merely because you can afford one doesnt mean other are the same.

Korean (or Kimchi as you seem to prefer to call it) cars are not going down the hybrid road - that's a fact. It's their own strategy. For "sauerkrauts" like Audi/BMW/contis, their hybrids are more on the high end models. For eg BMW Active 3 & 5 hybrid, the engines are still 3.0L and they sit at the upper range of the product group. The lower end sauerkrauts like VW, I think only Touareg has a hybrid version. The rest are using TDI. I don't recall opel having any hybrids. I guess hybrid systems are inherently expensive and therefore not practical on BB cars. For sushi cars, the insight & prius are significantly more expensive than their normal counterparts and is hardly I would call widely accepted (how many insights and prius you see on the road each day/week?). By the way, what do you make of the slump in the sales of sushi cars? Other than Toyota, the rest all eating grass and selling much less than kimchi who are already selling much less than sauerkrauts.

We do not know yet the price of the Vios so I will use Honda City as a comparison. The City and Elantra are currently listed as the same price (although I have it on good authority that the actual showroom price is lower by a few thousand) but the elantra is certainly a notch higher in terms of design and features (your own dislike for features notwithstanding).

I can tell you that my previous kimchi was hit by a sushi before and that sushi definitely came off much worse. Nuff said.

I am not sure how you went from consumer electronics to watches in your last para (kimchi not really known for watches) but I will stick to the electronics part. I really don't think the kimchi electronics (Samsung & LG) are winning sushi electronics (Panasonic, sony, sharp, etc) just because of prices. In fact I don't even think kimchi is cheaper than sushi in the first place. Maybe that's what you think. But this might be a shock to you, what you think it's not necessarily always right.

I know you consider me a kimchi fanboy. But the truth is, I am not. I am just not very rich and I want to get the most bang for my buck. If I had the means, I would definitely get a sauerkraut, pizza (Italian) or errr....Fish & Chips (British).

You are basically ANTI-KIMCHI. Look at the current Toyota cars. Are they gd? Even the Toyota cars have problems, the proud owners are too proud to own up. I even heard of Toyota car owners who are so pissed off with the car handling, and they bought Proton cars!

Enuff said indeed. But very little facts to back it up. Why are you so insecure and defensive about the Jap cars that you would ignore hard facts just to win an argument. Again I have no vested interest in K or J. Its just you always being so unreasonably -ive and quoting false facts that I see a need to correct you.

Re: Body.

I owned a Jap car and I crashed into a Korean car. I think I am very well qualified to tell you how sad the Jap body was (mine was a MIJ Jap car not Thai made). Also, do yourself a favour and seach this forum or stomp and check out the accidents between Korean and Jap car. Let facts, not rhetoric support your points pls.

Re: Bread and Butter

I compared test drove an Elantra and Optima with a Camry. Space aside the Elantra could hold its on with a Camry. Optima has all the Camry can offer except it suffers from poorer fuel consumption but gain in safety. Ok.. This is my personal take and I could be biased. But dun just take it from me, Go Topgear, Car, ------ and check the reviews of the Corolla and Civic vs the Forte, i30 etc. See what they say too.

Re: Consumer Electronics

Do not embarass yourself. LG and Samsung TVs are now priced higher than Sony, Sharp and Panasonic. Dun take it from me, go Harvey Norman and Courts and see.

Re: Watches

At no point did I say you could not afford, I was talking about the fallacy of reliability and the technology behind reliability. Plase see the contxt and take things objectively. Nobody is attacking you personally. Perhaps bcos you are attacking the Korean cars supporters so personally, u think any thing that disagree with your points is a personal attack on you. It is not.

I do not own a Korean make, (in fact I own 2 Japanese car before my current one) but my dad are long time KIA owners (he is on his 4th KIA I think). You have to say they make great leap in the last 5 years, so much so I believed they have well past comparison with Japanese cars, & looking to compete with Europeans car makes.

Just look at well respected review links like Carbuyer on Youtube, & see the praise that Korean cars get & their comparison with European makes in same segment. Only the odd japanese car are feature now & then these days, unless its a Lexus.

I am pretty sure many here knows i am anti korean and expecially when trolls come into a jap make topic to just boast of how good their korean makes are. If good , promote it in your own topic .

Anyway back to the topic . The front of a car is meant to crumple and the back is meant to be hard to sustain the impact that's the reason why the spare tyre is at the back. Dude it is quite clear you too lack the neccessary engineering knowledge to understand that. Well you can continue to contest but given the other way round where a kimchi kisses the bak of a jap make it will be the same outcome. That said I have driven for more than 15 years , I have never crashed my car or gotten myself in an accident crashing into other cars so I do not know how will the car react.

As for the review , I do agree on the test results based on merely a few hours to a few days test , unless you tell me those reviews that top gear and whatever car review actually drive th car til 100k km to test the reliability it is not facts but merely how much you bother to send your cars for review . In fact it is a well known fact that kimchis alway overstate their engine hp and specs only to fail on actual tests. The fact is you seen people still buying altis or a hybrid is ample fact that demand is there though a drop . But comparing to the almost lack of existence in new fortes would also highlight the difference. Cost difference ? The difference in a hybrid and a kimchi is lesser than 25% to claim it is so much more expensive is merely excuse.

To most altis or Toyota owners I know , they can well afford better cars , the same cannot be said of a kimchi car owner. If you think I am speaking facts , prove me wrong . I work in the credit dept , while you claim otherwise , then tell me where you work and prove it to me that I am wrong . Else self pwned again .

Again for consumer electronics dude I seriously think you have a problem in your technical knowledge , you are comparing items merely based on what ? The size of the t.v and not whatever that is inside ? Seriously I am not sure if you can even reason properly . One should be comparing tv. with similar features and functions and I am pretty sure prices are quite consistent lower in Korean makes comparing apples to apples

As for watches please read your own post and tell me whatever you say now and whatever you said previously makes any sense. One moment , you question reliability , which I answered to you the purpose for a Rolex is different from a Casio . The price difference is at least 10-50x , in plain context comparing a ferrari to a vios . Do you question the reliablity of a Ferrari ? Dude , I am not sure what you are trying to put across but at least try to keep your stand point .

The problem with kimchis supporters is simple fact that they lump things they feel belong to the same category and deem they are comparing facts in which time and time again can be challenged. End up all the time switching goal post to the point of blatant mud slinging . Seriously it doesn't change my mentality of the supporters here.

All the points I have made, I actually made effort to research before coming in. I could counter your posts point by points but you have shown resolutely your refusal to acknowledge facts just to win an argument and you repeatedly state suggest I am technically inept without even checking. That reflects really poorly on your character.

https://www.singtelshop.com/mobile/phones.jsf. Compare the best 5"phones that Samsung has vs Sony. The Xperia has better specs, but is priced lower bcos it has weaker branding. YOur points that Korean CE sells only bcos they are cheaper is an outright fallacy and your refusal to check before you shoot is a reflection of your mental capacity.
