Tianake 2nd Gear June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 They are nearer to the punggol end jetty area.. Encounter once, quite scary.. I use to go fishing around punggol end jetty, have no problem with those dogs and always try to offer them some food. but they are mostly timid and will only approach the food after i walk some distance away. In the first place, have anyone wonder why are those dogs there in all those ulu place? it is because of immature owners who can't or don't want to have a dog after it is fully grown, hence they release it to this kind of ulu place for the dogs to survive on their own. so will putting down or rounding up those dogs solve the problem? a few months, some idiots will release their dog into those ulu place again. Anyway it is normal that a dog chase after anyone who come into their home. if your dog at home aren't behaving like that, then i suggest that you change another dog ( assume a thief break into your house and your dog is wagging its tail at the thief instead of barking). so if i go swimming in the sea and some sharks come after me, should i get the government to wipe out all the sharks in the sea? ↡ Advertisement
Hydrocarbon Turbocharged June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 A letter posted on the "Best of Craiglist" that we felt everyone should read. YOU SHOULD ALL READ IT. Everyone who wants a pet should know exactly what happens if they decide they can't keep their pet anymore. Not all shelters are exactly the same, but this was written by a shelter manager, and I appreciated the post: "I am posting this (and it is long) because I think our society needs a huge "Wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all...a view from the inside if you will. ...... I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head...I do everyday on the way home from work. I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and realize that the lives you are affecting go much farther than the pets you dump at a shelter. Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you can stop it. I do my best to save every life I can but rescues are always full, and there are more animals coming in everyday than there are homes. My point to all of this...DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE! Hate me or flag me if you want to...the truth hurts and reality is what it is...I just hope I maybe changed one persons mind about breeding their dog, taking their loving pet to a shelter, or buying a dog. I hope that someone will walk into my shelter and say "I saw this thing on craigslist and it made me want adopt"...that would make it all worth it."* . Bro Mockngbrd, Thanks for sharing. It's what's stopping me from buying a dog right now, coz I know I can't fully take care of it yet. And a dog is a bigger commitment than a car. It's going to be part of the family, however my future family will turn out to be. To all those calling for the culling of the strays, or even taking them to a shelter, I hope that you've read the whole letter above. Already, many lives are lost this way. Why go after more when not all owners are taking care of their pets properly?
Mockngbrd Supersonic June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 (edited) The worst are those ppl giving up their dogs when the dogs are only 2-3yrs old. Still so young. I have 2, both adopted. Both great dogs. If i had the space (& $$$), i wouldn't mind another. Edited June 4, 2013 by Mockngbrd

Kia0042 2nd Gear June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 Sorry to make use of this thread to ask for some help. Any bros here know besides SPCA and ASD (Action for Dogs), which org can I contact regarding stray dogs? I am not asking to get rid of the stray dogs at my area but to help them sterilize, hospitalize until their wound recover and then release back to my area, all expenses under my account. I don't wish to contact SPCA coz likely they will put them to sleep when they catch them.

Edstan Neutral Newbie June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 this small incident can lead us to ponder what will happen when they decide to fully develop Ubin i say leave some space for nature let the animals have some chances to survive +1. Humans progressively expand their territory and deprive other living things. Like in this case. What do we expect those dogs to do? Book a flight and move elsewhere? Or accept their deaths to make way for humans? "Those dogs were once pets and now abandoned etc blah blah blah..." Yeah sure, so who created the problem in the first place? Humans, right? Sorry, I just feel very strongly on such issues.

These problems are caused by humans, but the dogs are suffering because of us. Doesn't seem right, does it?
Zxcvb Turbocharged June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 After so many years, stray dogs still poses a problem. I remembered many years back in secondary school (early 90s), SPCA came to my school for a talk during assembly. It was a very good informative, educational session, teaching us about the dogs, adoption, strays, putting them to sleep and so on. Do SPCA still hold talks at school nowadays?? I see many cute dogs pictures on facebook, instagram like a trophy or make the girls more "attractive" or guys more "caring"?? I believe for every cute dog I see on my facebook, there are probably 10 waiting to be put down somewhere.
Scion Turbocharged June 4, 2013 Author Share June 4, 2013 to me, stray dogs and cats are very "cham" if they do not have the fortune to be kept as pets, they will have to struggle to survive out there, competing space with human beings and other strays zoos won't accept them because they are domestic animals and have no commercial values SPCA will catch, sterile or put them to sleep they cannot survive in jungles or forested areas so most of them can only roam around void decks and carparks (mainly cats) or industrial areas (mainly dogs), scavenging for leftover food

Kman08 3rd Gear June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 Strays already lead a very tough life. The sad reality is the docile and friendly ones are the easiest to catch and be put to sleep. Those who survive capture tend to be more feral. Ppl need to realise we share nature not own it. If you want stay near greenery you should expect to see and interact with nature. if not stick the dam cycling path!!!!!! Mongrels make the best pets a lot less headaches than a pure breed or the so call pure breed available in Singapore. They tend to be hardier too. My greatest wish is for HDB to open their doors to them. Heck if we can let FTs in to our heart lands why not our Singapore specials(mongrels) I have rehomed many mongrels and a few pure breeds. This doggies don't need as much time as some of you mention a lil love, shelter and food. There is no greater joy I experience when coming home when greeted by my 3 mongrels they are always happy to see you regardless of the situation. Also pls note older dogs are so much more chill than a lil puppy who are similar to lil toddlers on steroids ;). So do adopt and free up shelters and remebr that old dog who would love nothing better than to sit at your feet and adore you. ↡ Advertisement
