Sailing just got amazing - moved to low level flying

America's Cup, the worlds oldest sporting trophy between nations, started on the weekend. Shown on Fox Sports.

 

The racing is fast and intense, but the boats are just down right amazing. Averaging 35+ knots (or 65km/h) around the course.

Sadly it will not be as "popular" here to watch as overhyped F1. Still remember the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover and Inport race in Singapore in 2008/9? Hardly anyone watched and those exhibitions at Sentosa Cove were swotting flies.

 

And blardy hell, it's FOC somemore. People want to pay $$$ to watch F1 to enjoy the deafening noise!

STB promised the organizer it will bring a certain amount of crowd to the event.

When the actual crowd was almost zero, organizer didn't want to pay for some fees due to them as they couldn't cover the operating cost for hosting the event.

They packed up & go, Frenchman was charged.

even when we had F1 powerboat races, excitement was low

The racing is just nuts, the boats are doing 40+ knots downwind (at times 3x the wind speed) and like 50-100m distance between them at times.

I prefer offshore powerboats. These boats really fly over water at 200+mph!!! Too bad we dont have it here in SG.

As far as I remembered, we never had offshore powerboats. Only those small single seater F1 powerboats. These offshore powerboats are a monster compared to the F1 powerboats.

 

We had a F1 powerboat type of race here in Marina Bay, SG last year leh.

One of the biggest comebacks in sporting history about to unfold? Oracle were down 8-1 (winner is first to 9). Now they have won 7 in a row to even up. So winner takes all tomorrow morning! This is amazing stuff.
