Greetings to all. Have found it very informative going through the various posts here.

I am seriously considering an Alfa 159, and would like to seek the advice of the bros here with regard to the following:

1. Generally, would you say that a 159 that is 7 years old has much more maintenance issues than a 159 that is say, 3 to 4 years old? I know that in general, as cars age there is wear and tear and generally higher risk of issues, but for 159s, do the problems get a lot more once it gets older?

2. I am fully aware that being an Alfa owner, you must be ready for many trade offs eg risk of car not being to start, various parts giving way, higher fuel consumption and so on, and I am ready for these trade offs.

Would just like to ask the feedback of the various 159 owners here: In your personal experience, on average how often do u get an unexpected malfunction, including both minor and major ones?

3. Would somebody be able to give me a breakdown/summary of the differences between the various "editions" of the 159s over the years? Eg QV, Q2 etc.. And how they affect the driving experience?

Thanks very much in advance for the advice!

Hi folks,

Back up for for grabs! apparently it doesnt fit the 3.2 Chassis (tried and proven)

UR Front tower Strut

http://www.ultraracing.my/catalog/index.php?id_product=145&controller=product

UR Rear Struct (this doesnt "cuts" up boot space)

http://www.ultraracing.my/catalog/index.php?id_product=146&controller=product

Take both for $100.. already out of car

Advantages: Zhng up ur car when pop bonnet and boot.. haha.. On the rear struct also useful to hang clothes and rags

Thanks

Hiya

For Alfa 159 2.2 Selespeed, 2009 model

Anyone has changed their brake disc and pads to performance ones?

Anyone has ordered the electrical pneumatic pump from UK and installed before?

Thanks

you can choose to think of all the worst scenarios. The thing is, many of these parts are kinda plug and play (like SS pump and vessel), so there is very little chance anything can go wrong. That part spoilt, just switch it out. Only for things like clutch, i will be more careful.

At the end of the day, it is your rapport with the workshop. Some will try to help u solve it, some will use it against you. If you ask me, I go with the savings.

I asked AS for quote on SS pump. All in, plus labour, about 1k. I bought my own and changed at Aleph. Pump AND accumulator, Incl labour, less than 1k,

If doing all these and you save say $50, then dont bother. We are talking about easily 50% savings at 20 blues level. 1k saving, thats prob 1 set of tyre change or 3 mths of petrol. Go figure.

When I changed my clutch at AS, the so called warranty is only 3 mths. For a part like Clutch, that is like no warranty if you ask me.

Hi Bro

You bought your own SS pump and accumulator ah? From who? Can recommend?

Who installed for you?

Thanks

Am I right to say the SS pump means the pump which primes the Selespeed gearbox?

I just put in a deposit for a 2009 159 2.2 jts, need to learn fast.

yah. pump provides the pressure. Accumulator stores it.

You will have plenty of time with the tow truck uncle. He will teach you.

Have fun. Do remember to have the car check with the agent.

Hi Guys,

I just got my ride Alfa 159 last week ago. I have an issue of driving the 159 in slow speed from gear 1 to gear 2. For high speed it goes perfectly, but for low speed during traffic jammed it is hard to control.

The car alway jerk like driving a manual car, and it is difficult to maintain throttle rpm during low speed. Furthermore, many alfa 159 owners said that this is the common problem for 159.

Therefore, no alfa 159 owners have solve this problem. I would appreciate if any of the 159 owners have solved or have solution for the above problem. Please do reply to this thread.

Thanks. smile.gif

The solution is your right foot. Took me quite some time to learn how to drive it in low speed.

Come for the next meet up and the 159 owners will show you how to drive it.

Unless is so serious. that you need to change your intake and exhaust for it to be smoother.

not kidding.

Congrats.

To smooth the shifts during low speed, press up shift before letting go gas for a split second before accelerating again.

It took me abt 1 week to master the low speed shifts so its natural for new owners to experience this.

Thanks guys for the info.

Btw, what do you think about remapping the ECU? Anyone have done it?

Remap your driving style is a better option. Don't waste $$.

It's not call sillyspeed for nothing .....

Know how the sillspeed respond to pedal input and you will get a smooth change between gears. If you live around west area (Bukit Batok or Bukit Timah) I will be happy to advice you have to drive the sillyspeed.

Don't send shivers down me so soon leh. Sure will follow advice to have the car check with EuroA- it's past services were with agent til 75K. When dealer took over at 99K, AS workshop examined it & changed one of the timing phaser. Dealer gives 6mths warranty to gearbox & engine for a start. My older Saab only stranded me twice in last 9+ yrs of motoring. I am still excited though lol. Caught a petrol head bug I suppose.
