Count_duku 4th Gear April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 Does klearkarbon work? What do they do? How much? It works, Dec until now engine still feels smooth. They pumped hydrogen through one of the vacuum pipe and ran the engine for about 30mins. Costs about $150+ with Bradahl additives put into the oil and petrol. ↡ Advertisement
Count_duku 4th Gear April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 Interesting read and valuable info from you guys. I've taken delivery of my wagon close to a week now. Constantly looking out for issues raised in the forum, so far the engine & selespeed are performing as expected. No baseline to compare though. I guess only make sense to go thru the checklist when this alfa hits 105,000km (was reasonably high milelage so haggled $ down). Perhaps its my imagination, I dunno if bros here experience a slight engine's flat spot in the 2.2jts, at before 3000rpm. Like a hesitation, it's still torquely and after 3k rpm its comes alive again. Is this a normal characteristic? Anyway I am enjoying it, eventough it's pretty standard setup. I don't mind meeting up if time fits, or GB whenever good stuff comes up. If slight hesitation without any errors on the dash then should be OK. If you have the flat spot and the CEL is lighted and the engine note sounds lower than normal, then probably one of cam sensors needs to be replaced. Saabretooth 2nd Gear April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 Hi seniors , Just to check, do you guys have this experience. When u using auto mode, the gear from 2nd nv engage to 3rd gear when ur RPM is already at 6 to 7. and 3rd to 4th gear as well. Is the gear oil low? and where to check the gear oil? Thanks! :) Are you really gunning for it when that happens? Looks like you're hitting the rev limiter so the gearbox automatically shifts up or something? Looks like you're hitting the rev limiter so the gearbox automatically shifts up or something? Maybe it's the hesitation from driver's input that causes the ECU to think that driver still wants to be in lower gear? When I'm reving the car in my 156, let go the gas (6000rpm or more before 7k rpm) for a while, the GB will maintain at lower gear. I have to either step all the way to redline or hold at 1/2 pedal and wait for a while before it will up shift.
Nyapfd 1st Gear April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 Prepare for poisonous mists!! Had my fair share of car breakdowns over many years while overseas - broken drive shaft, snapped timing belt etc - quite bizarre but won't mention the brands. Has a feeling the Alfa Romeo will be... kinder to me somehow Optimist bah.
Nyapfd 1st Gear April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 Hey New Owner Good to have you in the fold. Have been pretty busy lately so didn't have a chance to log in to see what's been happening here. Please come for the next meet up at the end of the month. We do organise runs from time to time, provided we have a healthy number of cars. Your gearbox etc etc is probably well maintained, if you haven't gotten any issues, but drive it for about 1000km first. cause some dealers might just clear error codes, which will take time to build up. As for the slight hesitation, its true, you are one sensitve fella. there are a few ways to overcome it. One is the stock way, the OTHERS are not.... Stock way, is to accelerate through the flat spot Not stock. Please pick up a Novitec Exhaust/new filter systems, and/or a tune. This releases some of the choke felt by owners who drive the car very sedately..... it solves the FEELING of flat spot Thanks for the head start with your mod tips. Once the pity 6mths warranty's over I can then roll up my sleeves. The flat spot isn't much of a problem - will keep an eye for any CEL as mentioned by another bro. What's a reasonable sport air filter that's readily available in Sg for 159?

There are many types of intakes and air filters. If you've read the threads, the biggest choke factor to the 159s Power, is in its exhaust system. With an after market exhaust, it releases the power back up to rated power. The change of exhaust helps to remove that restriction and thus the hesitation is removed. You can tell your dealer that EA warranty accepts Novitec exhaust and K&N air filter. So dealer warranty should be able to accept as well

Some say you do not need ICE, just sound of the exhaust. Some experience cold turkey when the exhaust sound suddenly becomes softer. The 159 without the exhaust is like watching TV without sound . Makes you forget about the hesitation even if it still exist after changing exhaust

Makes you forget about the hesitation even if it still exist after changing exhaust I have made up my mind! A high performance cat-back exhaust is one area I will seek to de-restrict the deserving engine. Being a high compression engine, Alfa has already done some good works with its air intake so perhaps I'll just drop in a sport filter.

chuaweijm Neutral Newbie April 20, 2015 Share April 20, 2015 Hi Seniors, Looking at getting a 159 soon. Can I just seek your advice regarding the list of parts that should ideally be changed/maintained for a 159 at abt late 70 000 km? For eg the clutch, water pump etc? And apparently there is this "gear box recalibration" that the agent does at abt 75 000 km for a fee of couple thousand bucks which apparently reduces the risk of future selespeed transmission problems? Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help This re calibration can be done by our own in-house doctor for less than couple of thousands... 1 thousand can already .. Kidding la. If you're prepared for wear and tear ... set aside at least 3k for full selespeed servicing including clutch replacement...etc. Come down for end of month meet up and then you can have a chat with the rest of the 159 owners Thanks - it seems Novitec is among the fav around here. AS has a last piece for sale at very good price.. you may want to call them to see if its available. 1. Remus. quiet, not that loud, not that obtrusive. 2. Sebring, haven't seen anyone on that yet, so no comments 3. Novitec - Bassy and big sounding 4. Supersprint - Bassier but not as big sounding. more gentlemanly, if I could describe it that way. Did not take into account performance gain in any of the above descriptions

I used to be able to sneak out of the house late night without waking my wife. I was caught once and now I have to inform her beforehand where I'm going after 10pm. Pick up my friend at her his place last night. Don't need to msg that I had reach as she could hear me at the 12th level. ↡ Advertisement
