Mazda 5 - requesting owners feedback

How much mileage is considered "running in"? My mileage now is about 1500km, and I had been clocking average of 10.1 km/litre. About 60% city driving.

Running in of tyres and brakes should be 500km. Engine should be 1000km and that's why normally there'll be oil change at 1000km, except for Trans Eurokars.

What is your old ride? There are various reasons to the stopping distance comparing different cars. Generally, you need to step more on the brake for heavier cars because higher inertia. Cannot compare to sedans or those sports cars etc. I did read somewhere that someone did feel that the Mazda 5 has a much longer stopping distance compared to his sedan, and that was one thing he didn't like.

Well i dunno either. But after travelling like 3-4000km, i sud felt the car more smoothly and efficiently. From initial 10.5-10.8 to 11+

What's your mileage now?

My mileage is slightly more than 1k.

Yet to go for the scheduled servicing due to the long queue time.

Hi everyone!

Just put pen on paper today to confirm my Mazda 5!

It's currently at listed $117,888. I got a decent deal from this.

Test driven this MPV three times. Also considered Citroen, X-trail, Serena, Qashqai, Jetta and Touran.

Ultimately decided on the Mazda M5.

But I had a bad experience to share. I visited Leng Kee 2x and Ubi once. Ubi today bcos i am close to making a decision and decided to try Ubi see if I can get a better deal.

Sadly the SE lady from Ubi hearing the offer I got from Leng Kee and she couldn't match, called to complain the Leng Kee SE. I decided to go back to the Leng Kee one despite not getting the ideal deal he offered due to her complain. I will not buy from such sour and scheming SE

Am driving a Wish 2008 and a Sylphy 06. I find the Mazda handles better than the wish. But I still love my Sylphy. Sadly it's not a MPV. Hahahah

Any feedback on the stock Pioneer set and the in-car camcorder thrown in?

Thanks

Hi & welcome to the club!

The stock pioneer HU comes with bluetooth pairing for phones as well as GPS. However, a few bros commented that there are some issues with the GPS. Also, the GPS maps are only meant for SG and certain parts of Malaysia (as infm by my SE).

As for the DVR, i cant comment as it wasn't included in my package. :TT_TT:

Can anyone comment on the Papago in-car front and rear camcorder that they throw in?

So far I don't have any problems with it, but I have not even looked at the videos in the first place. All I can say for now is that

1. Doesn't come with a manual. I tried to search online and all I could find is the Chinese version, which I couldn't be bothered to read.

2. Doesn't have "parking mode". Stops recording once power is off.

It's free lah. So I can't complain much. Haha.

Just to add on. One not-so-good thing abt the Pioneer HU is that although it has bluetooth connectivity, it does not have voice dial. So it still can be difficult to use when driving, except for the speed dials. I understand that the bluetooth connectivity that comes with Mazda stock in other countries have voice control.

Booked the M5 today. Was looking for "something" to replace my 6 year old ride. Not too sure exactly what I wanted. So test drove many cars - MPVs, sedans, diesels etc...from many badges..family of 5 so both sedans and MPVs are on my hit list..

Finally committed after moons of look seeing..with COE on the down trend. Decided to commit now as really no difference whether COE trends down further as old car will be traded in low also if COE tanks...so LPPL.

Test drove the M5 for the 2nd time and brought the whole family down. Took it on the long test route..hehe.

Likes -

good torque in D mode. If need more, can always drop a gear via manual shifting.

side mirrors are huge and afford good visibility

Dual power sliding door which can be operated via the remote also. A Must have if you ask me. The design of the rear passenger doors on many new cars protrudes out too much..always got to open very gingerly...

moonroof..another ventilation avenue.

rear 2nd row aircon vent..really aircon cool unlike some models which are just fans and for show nia..Another must have in sunny SG.

handling is good. Steering is not overly light. gives confidence to go faster.

ride is comfy behaving more like a sedan and not overly bouncy like some other MPVs.

Irritants -

only 2 SRS airbags

no cruise control

no 3rd row air vent

3 years warranty. need to pay more to get extended warranty. the flip side is once the "warranty lock in" period is over, free to service outside which is cheaper.

3 free services (1K, 5K and 10K) nia.

no keyless push start and entry.

higher road tax.

Deal breaker - None

Dealer was able to take in my old vehicle at a good price and that really helps to seal the deal.

Seriously looked at Sienta G also. But PI take in old car at very low price and since current prices is not too far from the M5, its a no brainer to go with M5.

Cheers.

Congrats & welcome to the club too..

Fyi, for the 1k & 5k servicing, they will just check the car only. They will only change EO on the 10k mark as new cars run on synthetic oil from production.

Lucky that u were able to get a good deal for ur old ride.

Can any kind soul feedback on the max period the i-stop will activate upon stopping the car?

Mine will just activate for max period of 5 seconds even though conditions remain the same

(ie. same pressure on brakes, steering wheel not moved).

Cant find any answers from SE and the net.

Thanks in advance. [confused]

There's no fixed duration for activation of I-stop. It depends on several factors, some of which are engine temp, Aircon temp, battery condition etc etc

When I test drove the car, I find the i-stop ok. it was not a hinderance at all and I was able to drive normally like I always do. the stop-start was so fast i hardly notice it.

On a side note, I realise during the test drive M5 manual shifting is truly manual i.e. the manual gear shifting will not auto jump to another gear. I have test driven another model whereby the supposedly manual gears auto shift in accordance to the speed of the car,..although helpful in gear changing, it totally takes the 'fun' away from manual shifting.

Hi all, may i check if any one of you experience weak braking and long stopping distance?

It seems that i have to step quite a fair bit in order to get the car to stop.

The brake feel is a bit spongy compared to my previous ride.

Any idea what can i do to increase the brake feel.

TIA.

i had the same problem. Feedback this to the service center and they fixed it. Now brake is better.

Thanks for the feedback. Though it cant beat the non-usage of petrol of hybrids during stops, i thought it would have a pre-determined period. Will just continue to monitor..

Congrats Yong Lip. I shared the same likes and irritants as you. Hahha

However I am surprised they offered u a good deal on yr current ride. For mine, their offer was 6k less than market offer!

Today COE result, my bid by dealer was unsuccessful. :)

Thank you all for sharing your inputs and feedback to the Head Unit and the ride.

I used to be in the spare parts industry. Am gonna contact my network to see what fancy stuff can zing my new M5. Hahahhah will share if I happen to find some interesting stuff

Btw, is there a Mazda 5 group or Mazda group forum or FB?
