joceychin Neutral Newbie September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 Hi I am a new member and cannot post new message. I am very confused by this HID D2R thing. One of my Honda Stream HID light is out. I have to confess that i know long ago that HID D2R, 6000K Philip is costly. However, i heard over the radio recently that HID bulb should not cost very much. I have checked the price and it will cost me SGD 440 for 2 bulbs (not "set" , whatever term the mechanic used) + $20 labour. The mechanic told me that my 2007 Stream is the original type. The holder and everything are different. So have to get the Philip ones which cost 400 +. If i want the cheaper type, have to change the entire headlight case etc, which will cost me a fortune too. Can someone explain to me abit more ? Not that i don't trust the mechanic. But i just don't understand. After his explanation, he showed me the items. it is just 2 bulbs afterall, not "set". So , is there any cheaper alternative or i have no choice but to part with 400 + ? ↡ Advertisement

These last a really long time compared to the cheap china crap that most shops out there sell. There is a ballast that will ignite these bulbs. The cheaper option he is referring to is the regular Halogen bulbs. For example, H4, H7. But in order to put these type of bulbs in your car, you would require a brand new headlight assembly which uses these cheaper bulbs because the sockets inside the housing is different. sganimefan 1st Gear March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 color temp max is 4300k, after that is illegal Thanks for the quick reply! On a separate note, where do people usually get their bulbs changed at? I understand from my dad that the authorised service centres like Borneo Motors or Motor Image won't do it for you since they would want to earn off the parts as well, but I'm not sure how true this is. Try outside shop like mx trading. I just found a contact through hwz forum. His name is Allan and he will go to your place to replace bulbs for you. Borneo or Motor Image or any brand agent/workshop will not enhance your bulbs to LED. They replace original parts from the car maker. Autobacs can encourage to change legal bulbs and usually they discourage illegal change even they have it.
