Most professionals, especially those who can speak English and are cosmopolitans, want to go to the States or UK lah but States can be difficult unless you have relatives and or a job there. Canada can be had for CAD800k deposit previously, so it is affordable for some. Singapore allows you to fly in, hang around and look for a job, then apply for permits.

 

I doubt you can do that in any of the developed countries. That is why a lot came.

Much is due to their homogeneous society that put them at a disadvantage in attracting foreign talents... language itself is already a natural barrier for them.... of coz their govt has a hand too

 

We are in the strongest position to attract the best .. but we went over to the other extreme... full retard .. in simple term... every tom/dick/harry also admit... once u treat ur own PR/citizenship like toilet paper... u have a 2-prong problem... trash coming in and talents shunting ...

Tat is d problem of letting in tom, dick n harry n our own better dick, tom n harry r out of job. Haha. Our gahmen ask d MIB, so u r against allowing employing FT. I also know how to answer tis. Of course not lah. Those jobs tat Sporean shunted ok but not those PMT position which can be filled by of our own lah. Just recently, as published in d press, a marine co employed about, think 14 FTs (all ranks) n terminate 14 of our local staff. MOM reprimanded n barred tis co for 2 years cannot employ FT. Think should bar them permanently as a deterrent to others. So, this is how our 40-50+ ppl got to la kopi. The co reason was these local staff perfomance were unsatisfactory. So zhun meh? bulls**t.

changes are obviously being made by garmen now forcing those FTs who have been here since early 2000s n now become senior level to hire n train young singies, but the hard part is will these FTs really train our young singies properly, or anyhow do n then later say singies are lousy n not hardworking etc thats why must hire their own kind? How is MOM supposed to make sure this doesnt happen?

Friends of mine, Singaporean:

1. to Ozzy (the couple are our local poly graduates, bachelor there, work and married here, got a kid here, then off they go). Their kids r ozzy citizens

2. to US (local uni bachelor degree, UK master, worked here for 10 years, married Japanese American, then off he went). His kid is US citizen.

But will be surprised that many Sporean, living overseas, would want to return after they got young children or find out they are disadvantaged against d their adopted country's locals on jobs, promotion, culture, etc. They realized Spore is still a safer place for young children to grow up. Important thing, don't terminate ur citizenship. One nvr know, may return to its motherland.

Won't be easy for the kid..u see the kind of academic stuff they load on children, vs the ones overseas?

Even for the parents, finding jobs also going to be difficult.. After all, they are not the 'FT' they are looking for.

I suppose the parents should be wooed by companies here with better jobs to want to come back.

Yes, my thoughts too.

If they want to return, better return within few months they find themselves cannot adapt.

Otherwise it'll going to be a similar uphill task as when they moved overseas.

Fully agree. It is all subjective, as long as whichever country offer them much more attractive package, the good (or real good) and young may still pick and choose. Once they are older, have kids or have have other commitment, their mobility are getting more limited. This goes to any citizen of any country, of course if your country of origin is the "first world country", you have more leverage.....

this is indisputable...Got a client who has spent almost 20 years in China working and building business there, but have difficult time arranging their sons to serve NS. Theirs sons are suffering culture shock, among other thing . Their father definitely won't be back here, instead their mother is the one going back and fro..... tough... very tough

i'm sure there are many bad/lousy/bias hiring policies by some company who are yet to be exposed.

those HR people would already be FT and would only hire FT applicants.

Yes... its a closed loop liao... and they bring their culture of kickbacks/ corruptions/ connections blah blah blah here.... funny thing is these countries are trying so hard to get rid of such traits while we import them on a grand scale here... welcome back to the 3rd world... Sg.... soon Sg will failed on big scale... and the finger pointing will start...
