I just choose "blue tooth audio" and YouTube a song. It works.

Wah, no joke. Anyone else replicated this? I don't use Bluetooth for music, only phone hands-free, so I haven't had the chance to test this yet. If true, then it's not a general font support problem, but perhaps support for only particular font encodings. Today, while listening to Apple Music via Lightning cable, an English song displayed no metadata at all.

Hmm, I'm also can't quite decide on doing soundproofing for my fxt. The car itself is actually very quiet already. The engine is pretty silent except when u rev hard and need the sudden urge to overtake. Even then the engine sounds pretty refine. Wind noise is noticeable at > legal hw speeds of 100,110 and beyond. Even the doors are pretty well insulated as I find the HK system to work well even when listening to sounds with heavier bass. The doors may not feel as solid as a bmw x3, but they certainly don't vibrate or sound hollow. The biggest culprit i find is the road noise, especially driving over very rough patches of road. To be honest, even a bmw 3 series with 18 inch wheels suffer from pretty bad road noises despite its excellent sound insulation. Doing a complete enhance floor and wheel arches sound proofing is the only way to reduce road noise. But i find this to be a bit too extensive as it requires the removal of all seats (our electric chairs!) and floor carpet, which i feel very uncomfortable about it.

BTW, the clasani undercoat does help a bit on the road noise. On well-paved roads, the car appear to be more silent. On rougher patches, road noise also sounded more muffled. $290 is quite well spent, especially its done by our agent MI.

Hmm... But SP for boot is kinda questionable leh. I used to layer my boot floor with 2 layers of mat and that will reduce some noise from the undercarriage. I know of some who also SP the boot cover but aside from making the boot cover heavier and close with a nicer thud, i'm not sure how that will help in reducing noise? Some audio shops also do boot SP by removing the spare tire and filling it up with SP mats.

Actually, MI's proposal for SP the 4 doors and roof is quite tempting except for the slightly high cost. its about $1150 for Forester. Can offset $200 (for every $1000 spent) if u have enough DUO points. essentially almost 20% discount. But then again, i doubt it will help to reduce road noise further which is the main culprit. Change to better tires may be the cheaper and more effective option to reduce road noise further.

Tan Chong charges about $200 for full bumper respray if no dents. Half day job. MI might charge similar since they are affiliated.

The HU can display eng only, chinese only, mix eng and chinese characters perfectly when i play music using my iphone (music app) via bluetooth. haven tried pluggig in cable though.

Honestly, I also find my Legacy very quiet, especially after doing the various undercarriage coats, which is why it's a bit hard to justify splurging on additional soundproofing, though of course it's always easy to be tempted.

I don't like the idea of removing panelling without good reason because you always risk introducing rattling and other noises, when before everything was swee. And that would drive me nuts. If I wanted to upgrade speakers, then maybe I'd consider soundproofing at the same time, but the HK system's turned out more than good enough for me, such that my old Eton speakers I planned to install are still sitting in my store room.

Interesting to know that MI's soundproofing price ($1,150) is the same for both Forester and Legacy, which means Outback's probably the same too.

Thanks for the bumper respray pricing. So far, Nissan and Subaru service pricing's been identical for many things, such as auto-fold mirrors. I wouldn't say that MI and TC are affiliated. I'd say they are essentially the same company, both owned and operated by TCI, with some staff even moving between Subaru and Nissan showrooms.

So you've had luck with Chinese characters via Bluetooth too, eh? I must try.

Any ways to tune the reverse sensors? They are like my wife, always overly sensitive and overacting

And now within 2 weeks of marriage they refuse to beep

Actually I find it quite accurate and useful. It's better to be more sensitive than less for sensors. Anyway, it only beeps on reverse so just get used to it (like your wife's nagging)

For soundproofing, I suggest going to a good and reputable audio shop. Not sure how good MI's workmanship is but dismantling and re-assembling panels and parts tend to loosen things. The danger is after a while, u may get vibrating/ rattling becos parts were not as tight and put together securely

Hmm I nv had any problems with Chinese characters displaying on the HU when playing music off my iPhone. But I'm haven tried using Usb sticks with MP3s. Dun think I will need to do that since I'm Apple Music subscription.

Think I will skip the MI SP. quite happy with my xt sound insulation already. My wife and I can enjoy a peaceful conversation without having to talk loudly compared to our previous Honda, Nissan and Mazda. Sat on my friend's 320i (current gen) and it didn't sound any quieter... In fact I think his low profile 18 inch sports tires generate more road noise. Haa.

Hi

What is the insurance premiums like for the NA & XT?

Thanks!

MI's AIG quote for me was very ex. $2.6k 34yr 20% ncd, 10yrs driving. I got aviva myself at 1.3k, with ncd protector, comprehensive, act of God covered, can go back mI for repairs.

Above for xt btw.

You need not take AIG, you can take anyone you want but there is a penalty of $300.  So if your insurance is > $300 less it is worth getting.  I did not take AIG but went for AXA when I bought the car.

I went for DirectAsia at less than $1000 and even got $150 petrol voucher due to a particular promotion.

Yours is fna I presumed? I used DA before. It's hard to make repair at AD. They will keep telling u to go to their authorised workshops...

Aviva just go online get quote. If your profile similar to mine then should be around 1.3k only. If u buy 2 years one shot it's even cheaper and comes with $200 petrol voucher. Btw, my job is indoor. Fna they quote around 1k only. Edited by mrhan1982

According to my SE, if there is accident claim but repair is not done by MI, warranty will void.

Yup u r right. My se told me the same thing when I opt out their AIG insurance. That's y I went with aviva instead of DA though DA is cheaper. I've check with aviva that they allow us to repair at MI before I submit my online application. Comparatively, i understand that forester na and xt insurance are considered cheaper coz of lower omv and its safety features despite it being an suv.

I was told that subaru's awd system and boxer engine are kinda complicated high tech stuff that's y MI is very particular about getting repairs done outside.

My previous HL insurance quote ~$300 cheaper if require to use back MI for repair. However, due to opt out AIG have a penalty of $300, I rather stay with AIG for the 1st year and move back to other insurance after that.

HL insurance agent give me 2 quote. one which is more ex (cant remember is like $200+ more), can go back to MI for repair. He ask me to check with my SE on whether if kana accident can don't go back to MI for repair anot before confirming which coverage is better for me.
