Asked MI to install for me (it's a factory option for the Legacy, after all) but they are still scratching their heads about it. Sigh. ↡ Advertisement

mrhan1982 4th Gear June 19, 2016 Share June 19, 2016 Value for money or not is subjective. There are ones who feel they don't need the extra FXT goodies so that 12k is not worth it to them. Nothing wrong with that too. TC cars are said to require more frequent servicing so potential extra cost there. FXT will have worse FC than FNA. Higher insurance premium maybe? Ya fxt upfront buying cost is higher ~12-15k. Insurance for me is $300 more per year. Fc wise I'm getting around 11-11.5km/L so compare to fna I probably waste another $100 per month based on my usage. 18 inch tires also more expensive when I need to change them every 2 years. Servicing is same, every 10k. Btw, mi charge by engine cc. Not by turbo or na. But if the turbo needs extra replacement of spare parts then it's another additional cost. All in all, fxt is more ex to run annually compare to fna. But y so some ppl still choose fxt over fna? Reason is very simple. It's because fxt owners are willing to pay a slight premium to enjoy the additional features (including the kick of driving a twin charge turbo engine) of the fxt. This some the additional features are good to have. To some, they are quite essential. For eg myself, memory seats, hk sound system, better suspension and brakes, turbo engine, all these are important to me. :) I'm still sore that FXT has seat memory but Legacy doesn't. Asked MI to install for me (it's a factory option for the Legacy, after all) but they are still scratching their heads about it. Sigh.I'm the sole driver of my car, but I still find the memory seats useful. Eg when using valet services, sometimes they may change my seat positions, or when send for servicing, or I just wanna recline and relax while waiting for wife to knock off from work. With memory seats, I can get my seating position back instantly. Heh...

Those are the exact reasons I want seat memory. I would really happily pay to have this installed.

Civicguy Neutral Newbie June 20, 2016 Share June 20, 2016 Yours is fna I presumed? I used DA before. It's hard to make repair at AD. They will keep telling u to go to their authorised workshops... Aviva just go online get quote. If your profile similar to mine then should be around 1.3k only. If u buy 2 years one shot it's even cheaper and comes with $200 petrol voucher. Btw, my job is indoor. Fna they quote around 1k only. I just called them and confirmed my package can go to MI for repairs so I guess it is ok. Best to avoid accidents :)
Little_prince Supersonic June 20, 2016 Share June 20, 2016 MI's AIG quote for me was very ex. $2.6k 34yr 20% ncd, 10yrs driving. I got aviva myself at 1.3k, with ncd protector, comprehensive, act of God covered, can go back mI for repairs. Above for xt btw. Wah. MI insurance quite exp ah

Cboonh 2nd Gear June 20, 2016 Share June 20, 2016 (edited) Hmm, I'm also can't quite decide on doing soundproofing for my fxt. The car itself is actually very quiet already. The engine is pretty silent except when u rev hard and need the sudden urge to overtake. Even then the engine sounds pretty refine. Wind noise is noticeable at > legal hw speeds of 100,110 and beyond. Even the doors are pretty well insulated as I find the HK system to work well even when listening to sounds with heavier bass. The doors may not feel as solid as a bmw x3, but they certainly don't vibrate or sound hollow. The biggest culprit i find is the road noise, especially driving over very rough patches of road. To be honest, even a bmw 3 series with 18 inch wheels suffer from pretty bad road noises despite its excellent sound insulation. Doing a complete enhance floor and wheel arches sound proofing is the only way to reduce road noise. But i find this to be a bit too extensive as it requires the removal of all seats (our electric chairs!) and floor carpet, which i feel very uncomfortable about it. BTW, the clasani undercoat does help a bit on the road noise. On well-paved roads, the car appear to be more silent. On rougher patches, road noise also sounded more muffled. $290 is quite well spent, especially its done by our agent MI. Hmm... But SP for boot is kinda questionable leh. I used to layer my boot floor with 2 layers of mat and that will reduce some noise from the undercarriage. I know of some who also SP the boot cover but aside from making the boot cover heavier and close with a nicer thud, i'm not sure how that will help in reducing noise? Some audio shops also do boot SP by removing the spare tire and filling it up with SP mats. Actually, MI's proposal for SP the 4 doors and roof is quite tempting except for the slightly high cost. its about $1150 for Forester. Can offset $200 (for every $1000 spent) if u have enough DUO points. essentially almost 20% discount. But then again, i doubt it will help to reduce road noise further which is the main culprit. Change to better tires may be the cheaper and more effective option to reduce road noise further. Once you start, you'll know the difference. It's actually very noticeable. Agree that the car itself is decent in terms of cabin quietness. Having done the SP, it's another level of quietness after the sound proof. The trade-off here is weight, but for a 1.7 ton/ 2l TC car... it's a drop in the ocean. Reputable shops will protect your car's innards and fittings. Go with someone who have done up the car before. On SPing of the boot, i was referring to was the spare tyre well and its surroundings. I was trying to get rid of a specific sound/road noise... it's a dark dark path i tell you. :P The good thing about going to MI is that you can blame the loose parts/fittings (if it occurs) on them! Well, you're paying a premium and they'll have to offer that at the very least. :) Turn back if you feel the current setup is sufficient... once you start, you'll never go back! :) Edited June 20, 2016 by Cboonh

Best to avoid accidents :) Good to know that DA's still an option for those of us Subaru drivers who want to ensure we keep our MI warranties. Did you take DA's low mileage and Singapore-only (cannot drive to M'sia) discounts? How much did you pay? I used DA for a few years before switching to AIG for my Legacy. Thanks for the warning. I've decided to stay away from additional soundproofing and be content. Let's see how long that resolution lasts. I reckon it will probably hold.
