Re soundproofing ... I am told that STP slabs is about 1 kg each. Add 3 to each door when soundproof. So will increase weight of car. Add floor padding etc etc .. hv to compromise with higher weight of car

1 tip for those who washes their own car. If you carry the key with you while washing the car, water splashes and soap suds on the front door handles can trigger the car to lock and unlock. To overcome this, leave the key inside the car. The car will chime and not lock becos it senses the key is inside the car

Let me share something that is ironic. I once bought a management car from MI. Those car they registered themselves and probably driven by management. I went for servicing and they also strongly recommended the anti rust thingy.

 

I asked them how come you didn't do for your own car? The SA gave a "look" ...

 

 

I believe the anti rust does work but think they also know its not a "real need". Useful for those I believe who likes to drive on the beach and kena exposed to salt water.

I tested also but does not work.

Suspect that the person with the working HU is actually having a more up-to-date firmware.

Maybe, can see if Fuji-Ten or MI can flash our HUs to that version.

Maybe what is required is not the Gracenote version to be same but the version of the main HU software has to be same as the HU that is successful with Chinese display?

 

If HU software already same version and still not working, perhaps is because the one that can display Chinese has the Chinese language pack/font installed while the one not working does not have required language pack/fonts?

 

Main thing perhaps can attempt is for someone to bring a USB with Chinese titled songs to try on the showroom/test car and confirm can display, and then show the MI service staff that the owner's own car cannot display.

Then see if can consider as covered under the warranty for MI to fix for free.

There was a need in the past.  I remember my parent's generation time, the cars can actually rust under the paint.

Nowadays, the steel, without the paint, is already protected to some extent through galvanisation - i.e. a coating of another metal that will protect the steel surface and also sacrifiice/oxidise itself first before the steel will rust.

So in normal city use no need rust proofing.

 

For use outside of city or in winter countries where they throw salt on the roads to melt the ice, not sure how well the galvanisation can protect against rust.

If go to beach or off-road, with or without rust proofing, most important is still to do a good wash to get rid of the dirt/salt etc.

1 week old owner.  Just learnt today that when I walk up to car with key fob the interior lights turn on.  Was telling my wife last 2 times I saw the lights on that we forgot to lock the car...haha.  Kinda cool.

Tend to agree with you. Manufacturing tech and quality has come a long long way. I would think that the metal surface come with some level of rust protection. Having said that, the metal is only protected if the covering material (paint or manufacturing process) is intact... the under carriage is prone to more abuse than the sides of the car, so higher chance of the protective layer coming off... stone chipping it off for instance.

 

So the rust protection may not be a bad thing. Hearsay that the other +ve side effect includes improved sound insulation.

 

I personally would not do it... how long are we renting owning the car for again?

Probably a font issue.

 

If anyone is willing to go down MI to compare Chinese fonts on demo cars and our cars, I'd be happy to meet you there with my Legacy to support the case. I'll even bring a USB drive with Chinese songs. Anyone with a 7-inch Fuji Ten HU (not the 6.2-inch HU in FNA, etc) can be affected, which means all you FXT, OB, Legacy and Levorg folks are included. Unless you don't care about Chinese characters on your HU. I do.

Singapore I don't think have such auto car wash but can try DIY - see 2nd video but need own free flow water supply which is hard to find in Singapore also - unless you live in landed property.
