Just got the mud flap today..waiting to install after weekend shower

Bought mudflaps and key poach. Still waiting for it to come. Thinking of buying other items rain visor

My 50+ yr old colleague took my fxt for the first time today as we had to go to a site for some errands. First thing he mentioned to me was why I bought a Subaru. Hmm I replied coz it's slightly safer, more spacious, faster and cheaper than other similar makes. Next thing he commented was that it uses a boxer engine. I tot he was going to say good things.. But end up he say boxer engines very complicated and expensive to maintain... Then he continue to say subarus drinks lotsa petrol and they are heavy and slow. Then he ask about fc. I tot him I avg about 10-11km/ L. He was like .. Sure or not... Lol

 

When we about to merge to exp way, I was looking out for traffic on lanes 3, 2, and 1. I one shot change 2 lanes and was on lane 2. He say Wa so power ah u eat 2 lanes 1 shot. I replied him actually I normally eat 3 lanes 1 shot if no traffic and go striaght to lane 1. But since I was carrying some fragile items, I tried to drive more slowly.. After that he got no comments on the car Liao.

 

Haa, interesting conversation with my colleague. The mindsets of those 50+ or older on subarus are still the same. Not easy to convince them subarus nowadays make some pretty decent cars.

 

Good way to impress someone who does not know what Subaru car capable of but be careful that traffic police will also be very impressed with the cutting across of so many lanes in one go and may want to present you with a paper "certificate".

just collected my NA ride last week and so far so good..im getting around 10-11km/l for normal driving (no pussy footed). can I check when do you guys fuel up? i collected car with just 1 bar and i thought better filled it up. do we have reserve fuel? - just trying to gauge

Just a couple of things:

 

When you say you are getting 10 - 11 km/l is it based on what is showing on the car (converted from the readout which is litres per 100km) or you manually calculate? Reason I am asking is that I found that based on the readout, for the last full tank, I should be getting about 10 km/l, but when manually calculate, it is closer to 9 km/l/.

 

On how much you petrol left in the tank, like most Jap cars, when the light comes on, you will have about 10 litres left in the tank.

Is your car a FNA or FXT? I think if I remember my SE said the FXT has the auto fold. Or is your a new shipment?

meaning to say have to svc car earlier than the the "next svc distance"

my friend (not a car person, but i know he's abit cynical one) whom i've not met for some time, asked me why i bought an Alfa.

 

i just asked him "you planning to get an Alfa too"?

 

he said "no".

 

then i just told him "then why you wanna know? Since whatever i say will not add value to you as you are not planning to get one" 

 

 

my point is, no point trying to justify our purchase to others. 

 

haters are just gonna hate and people who don't know, will never know.

Viewed the FXT at Tpy today. 127.8k aft usual discount.

 

OMV is now above 20K (exact amount I did not ask) since last 2 bidding according to the SE that served me hence 60% loan max.

 

I enquired for white and silver and both are in stock.

 

Just sharing. Not sure if this info shared in earlier pages.

We are driving in a city traffic here most of the time, you definitely had to include the idling at traffic stop.

What FC showed by all manufacturers are just a theoretical number, which in almost all cases will not able to obtain.

Since the Uncles and Aunties complain this car "jiak you", perhaps it was so for the older generations. 

 

If any bros can share Gen 2 or Gen 3 FC, perhaps we can appreciate the improvements of the current gen Forester better.

The current FB20 engine (for non-turbo Forester) is still port-injection, probably that is why the FC is quite close to the FA20 engine which is direct-injection (turbo charged Forester).

I read from internet that Subaru is looking into making direct-inject for FB20, I think this will help to improve the fuel consumption for the non-turbo engine in future.

Dunno about Forester but my car's trip computer accounts for idling. Every minute waiting for someone results in my trip average dropping... more reason to tell people to not make me wait!

My 2006 2.0L FNA had FC of 7.5 km/L with 90% city driving.
