Day 2 with magic collar.... fresh day and I have more time to feel the effect. Wow! What a transform! Even the initial car pick up had improved tremendously. Comfort rating + 50%... definitely not placebo effect.

Vvfm mod imo

Hi Rainman,

Yes, definitely a value for money mod. It’s amazing how these little collars can result in such an impact to the drive. No regrets for the installation. I think Steven is running out of stock for these collars.

Hi Freon,

Aaahh .. 18/15 and not 10/8.

As said, pls set to lowest and then up else it may even be 26/23 in comparison to 10/8 which is a big difference and which explains "being toss around over hump" since it is already too hard then.

Cheèrs.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I’m pleased to inform that I’ve found the culprit of the “tightening” noise whenever I make right turns. The bolts and nuts aren’t tight enough on the front lower control arms. Ironic isn’t it? Haha.

Went back to Steven and told him about my speculations. He and his crew were very nice to assist in checking all the bolts and nuts. They even checked my front arb and got the bushing greased etc. Drove off a happy man and he was too nice not to charge a single cent. Kudos to them.

Hi Rainman,

I have to thank you who pushed me to in turn to pushed my kaki ... 2 elated forester owners at Kallang Place ... lol !

Guess initial feedback with magic collars is positive and glad for you ! It will get better somewhat when settled since the aluminium material will squeezed out permanently ... btw, my kaki ride is also with magic collars and ZERO harshness. It is the stiffer RSR springs that negative such harshness and never say never to stiffer springs as I now truly believe that it is all about balancing out the shortcomings and pushing the advantages of others.

This forester taught me quite a lot ....

Cheers.

Richard

Feeling excited for you for the RSR springs!

Hi Freon,

Hosay liao to have solved your noise issue :)

Ya .. looking forward to installation of the RSR springs next week and fingercrossed to replicate the same stable and compliant ride ever experienced .. there are still some minor differences in the ride of my kaki and mine with full flexible sti monkeys, body dampers etc.

Wanted to get the almost 2x priced Ti2000 version of RSR that is reportedly lighter weight for better handling but decided not to risk it to add more variation.

Cheers.

Richard

Good to hear ur really pleased with the collars ! Amazing how these small bits could make such difference. And the damage is like $250 and 2 hrs downtime. I guess no one bother to discuss whether this may void MI warranty cos u guys' rides are too deeply enhanced? Hehe :D

Mine is a second hand buy and the warranty was long gone so I’m just doing whatever within my means to mod the ride. With a trusted workshop outside of MI, I guess that could solve many problems too although it may cost a bit more (or even less).

I’m sure someone has asked before but what are the mods that you bros out here have done to your cars? (:

Ho Scooby,

How MI can tell and more importantly, void what warranty ?

The bolts and nuts of the subframe .. sure .. but if you allow MI to void engine or headunit, I would say pls dun.

Cheers.

Hey richard

Your q is prob a mil $ one ! Haha. It's not uncommon to hear tales of ADs voiding warranty for all sorts of frivalous reasons. Anyway i hv not had that experience as yet. At MI some mths back, i heard this guy being told that his air con issue may not be able to claim warranty bcos he did not use orig subaru air con filter. I dunno enuf whether this is hogwash or not. Haha. Anyway this magic collar indeed sounds n feels like magic. Will chk it out.

I just fixed up the magic collar, feels like a new atas ride, chassis is tightened and though it introduce a little more harshness but it reduced or removed another kind of nervous bounce which I dreaded a lot. So all in all I would say itâs good.... to monitor a few more days.

Hi Rainman,

Care to share where you installed the Magic Collar and price? Please PM me if it's not convenient to reveal here.

For bros who are interested, here's a YouTube I came across :

"

It's Spoon's Rigid Collar, similar product. The video is in Japanese with English subtitle.

Hi,

so the "sound" when you make a right turn is due to not tighten bolts and nut at front lower arm? is that after your damper install? so it only happen on right turn? what about reverse?

thanks,

Hi Tow,

Spoon is arguably the inventor while I believe magic collars is from Thailand or Malaysia. There is also Stiff Rings if you google further.

Cheers.

Hi Richard,

Yes. Magic Collar is from Thailand. I am sold on this enhancement, will need to find time to install it.

I also saw another slow motioned video showing why the suspension is performing better after the installation, when going through hump. Unfortunately, I can't find it now.

Hi Epsilon,

Are you facing the same issues of having funny sounds in your undercarriage as you drive? To be honest, I think my car is a bit too stiff after the handling mods and because of that, maybe the impact of the small imperfection and bumps on the road are taking a toll on the undercarriage. That’s why there is this sound coming from underneath.

I found out that the sound actually comes on upon the turn of my steering wheel. So maybe the bolt and nut thing wasn’t the cause of the sound as I think the sound did come back already. I guess I will live with it for now since the drivability far outweighs that small noise.

I may check out my steering rack during my next servicing with is quite soon. Will update again!

This is ready arguably the best mod to the car. I was hesitant but after seeing Richard’s comments, I didn’t have a second thought. His reviews here are *thumbs up*!

wow, all this talk about magic collar makes me wanna get one too  [laugh]  [laugh]  [laugh]

btw, any bros here using S# mode?

My speed on NSHW is ~160 - 170km on S mode. Getting to 180 seems a bit hard.  Maybe i should switch to S# and also use (-)  paddle shifter to downshift for more power to accelerate?

just saw this on my inbox... hmm? Any thoughts whether this is vfm or better go for cusco touring A?

If u are driving NA, no need to think, Cusco. The NA stock cost so much is cuz of self levelling function. I've been trying to see it work but no luck even after loading my boot. Not really necessary, so if I were to change, I'll change Cusco.

For XT not so straightforward cuz XT stock damper is way cheaper. But of cuz u get the adjustability if u change to cusco. It whether u wanna fork out a few hundred more. I would think it's worth it.
