This morning a security guard at my workplace pointed out to me that my Skoda Superb front left wheel is making loud metal grinding noise which i never notice due to loud music in my car. And the noise was truly loud after i took notice, But after stopping the car and starting the engine, the noise disappeared. And no fault messages on my dashboard all the while. And my car was able to brake normally during the drive to office.

Can anyone advise if the fault most likely to be due to worn out brake disc and pad? Only changed it once in a previous car and it never gave out grinding noise. I am going to workshop to change the brake discs and pads today or tomorrow, as overdue already but had been thinking would do it when warning signs appear. But now better do it as my car might not have such sensors unlike Merc cars.

My accord had front brakes grinding sound for 3 years plus. Worst when pads are dry and at start of the morning. Sound like old lorry, my poor neighbour's and security guard need to listen to it everyday.

Even though the front brake pads were still sufficient based on two mechanics. Changed brake pad when worn down to less than 20%.

sound disappeared over 1-2 months then recurred. Likely some part of the brake rotor is uneven and keeps grinding the brake pad unevenly. Still drove to scrap though.

Thanks for the sharing of your experience. Have been thinking to change my ride in near future lately but with more parts being replaced recently, such as tyres, MU module under warranty, battery, and now brake discs and pads, enough motivation to keep the car longer already haha. Would be doing at an outside workshop as the cost is halved of what AD is charging as checked recently.

brake noise can be caused by many reasons

hard to put a finger on it without checking the car physically

have the mechanic to take a look and see what they say

Any recommended workshop to check on brakes?

If your ride is under Volkswagen group, Servotronics in Sin Ming is relatively cheap and capable and uses original parts. Just replaced front disc and pads there recently. Should be able to service for MIJ and MIK cars but no personal experience to vouch.
