google "yify movies"

speaking of YIFY rips... users of Popcorn Time... a software that made it easy to watch these torrents as streams... are being sued by a studio.

We all remember that Dallas Cowboy movie case here. Pretty soon, you can expect some law firm or other asking the telcos here for more information on local streamers.

Caveat actor...

Popcorn Time, the Netflix-like streaming service that delivers pirated movies to users, has battled legal difficulties since it launched, and the pile of complaints leveled against it just got a little bit bigger. Indie studio Millennium Films and its affiliate Nu Image filed a lawsuit against Popcorn Time users in Oregon today, claiming they were responsible for more than 10,000 illegal downloads of the 2015 assassin movie Survivor, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Milla Jovovich.

Emptor. Not actor?

if u don't use popcorn time and a few other apps (or streams that download the file onto your device), it's not illegal to stream.

Popcorn time works on a BT concept if i'm correct.

It's not difficult to use VPN with streaming i guess.

VPN and climbing hill is not so easy. I tried before, couldn't get it to work though i followed all the steps.

U have to be very cautious about using free VPNs though.

caveat emptor is "let the buyer beware"

caveat actor is "let the doer beware" :D

yes... Popcorn works on bit-torrent tech and the maintainers of the software take YIFY streams and put a nice Netflix like interface with links to rating from RottenTomatoes or IMDB.

Popcorn downloads parts of the file in a temp cache which is deleted when you close the app. It needn't be the complete movie... for example, when you start a movie/TV show from the middle or towards the end, it downloads those packets and plays the movie almost instantly... it doesn't ask us to wait until it downloads from the start.

Even if we use other programs.... it will be similar... as for optimum user experience, these programs will download parts ahead.... and these parts will be in a cache somewhere. Just because we don't see them in a user-defined/accessible folder... it doesn't absolve us of the responsibility.

In any case... this streaming is still considered illegal. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

What matters is how much of a drive/enthusiasm there is with the movie studios to pursue these types of cases here. And they will if it is economically feasible for them to do so.

That's why I said... caveat actor [thumbsup]

I just know that this industry is monopoly one. In other countries, its up to u who u want to subscribe or watch. Not they tap on starhub box so what infringement? They the one created the HBO shows ah? They the one film is it?

Totally agree with you bro, it consumers' choice [thumbsup]

yes... partly true... I get my VPN from MyRepublic for free. And I pay for Amazon Prime and Hulu. I also buy/rent from the iTunes US store or India store or Singapore store... depending on whichever is cheaper at that time for that content.

Technically... I am abusing my terms and conditions on the above services... and some of the content will fall foul with the rating of MDA... but than... so is a lot of stuff on Youtube... this is a grey area for MDA... not sure they even want to step on that slippery slope.

As you say... it is time for legal services such SH and ST to step up the game.

I just watch less tv. Lol.

it's always better to stick to M1 or Myrepublic as ISP. they don't produce/buy any content, so no vested interest.

Starhub surprisingly doesn't throttle anyone for soccer. But Singtel is definitely doing it for pple who watching soccer on streaming.

Consumer choice or not, if u use stuff like dreambox, then if Starhub comes after you to make u an example. U really no chance.

Some stuff, stick to grey area is ok. Downright dangerous stuff, best to avoid with a 10 foot pole.

Some of my friends used dreambox before, i feel that's really dangerous.

when it comes to tv or movies, almost anything that is free is illegal.

in other words, you have to pay someone to be legal.

Advertising money.

advertising is like pre-paid tv, advertisers pay for the "tv" that you can watch legally.

anything else, if you didn't pay, it's primarily illegal.

someone who didn't get paid is gonna sue.

well, such is the world today.

Sometimes watching trailer is not enough to judge if you like the movie. Beside trailers always show the exciting part.. So some people download the movie to preview and buy it later if they liked it. But the qualities of movie nowadays not to standard, hence buying rate is low for these group of previewers.. [laugh]
