yes. so far only HW has had the outright ban. Mainly cos HW also does 5g infrastructure/cloud/routers part etc.
the above companies only do phones/electronic consumer goods.

Only for export models. Take note of that if you buy online from china. Normally they call it global ROM. You can buy those china roms and sideload but it's not very stable.

Between Oppo and Google, which make has the better local support for repairs/warranty? I do not see many local Google Pixels in the hands of locals, so I worry about the repair service should I ever need them.

Oppo. They have their own service center at Suntec. Very reasonable prices for original parts and service. No need to go to Ah Beng shops anymore.

I have used a few models of Oppo so far. Even my kids are using Oppo.
Happy with the OS and stability.
Have given up on Samsung. Getting really expensive plus the lack of a charger (for the high end phones) is a turn-off. Pay so much for a phone and a charger is not included! The bloatware included in Samsung is also irritating. The only reason to want a Samsung is if you want to use a Samsung Galaxy Watch, to enable full functions of the watch.

Oppo Find X5 Pro is starting at close to $1,500 on Shopee. Too costly for a non work related phone.

There is Find X3 Pro which is more within my target range. I am trying keep to under $1k. Any suggestions on this as well as the competing range from Xiaomi like the K50 ?

Find X3 pro is last generation flagship. I almost bought this recently.
Downside would be it guzzles more battery compared to the x5pro. Camera sensor should be identical except that X5pro has a more advanced stabilisation feature.

U can consider Oppo Reno 8/8pro which has the same IMX766 sensor on the main camera. But I'm not so familiar with this phone.

Realised Reno8 is bit new.
The Reno7pro also has the same IMX766 sensor as main, IMX709 as selfie as even the current flagship X5 pro.

Reno 7/8 series are the upper mid-tier phones for Oppo.
Though these phones are not as well reviewed as the flagships, I would say under normal conditions, it should be pretty close in performance to their flagships.

To close the loop. I have ordered an Oppo Find X3 Pro from Shopee at $880. It so happened they were having a short duration sale yesterday.

Battery guzzling not an issue as I do not spend long durations away from a charger.

For those interested, Google is also having a sale on their Pixel 6 Pro. However I gave it a miss as consumer feedback were on dodgy fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone, and manufacturing quality inconsistency. As good as the camera is, I cannot live with a hard to unlock phone.

Now  I have a new Oppo phone to replace a 4 year old Huawei from pre-embargo days.

What will be the easiest way to clone my old android phone to the new phone from different manufacturers? I want to bring over contacts, Apps, chats, photos, docs, email, etc. Appreciate advice from those who have recently changed android phones.

Email/contacts should be stored in your google account. Auto port over.
Chats in whatsapp is ported over if backed up to google drive. Also auto port over once u login with your new phone.

But my important documents are on google docs/dropbox.

Photos/apps may have to use 3rd party cloning app. No idea on that.
Personally i would just install the apps i want to use separately and photos/document just copy out the respective folders onto your laptop and over to your new phone. But for apps u would have to remember all your respective passwords etc.

Thanks Lala.

I spotted a "phone clone" icon on my Huawei. I wonder if it works between Huawei and Oppo. Will give it a try.

I have to hand it to Apple. Their users can switch devices so seamlessly.  Even a tech ignoramus can port over all their data to a new phone

this is used issit? Seems too cheap for brand new telco set. given x5 pro is 1500 without any special voucher or what.

Oh ok. it's a August set. Got one that's an april set, i don't think that one is worth it.

i think unlikely to work? cos it must be stored in their cloud server and ported to your new phone. most manufacturers want you to stick to their ecosystem bah.
