Now  I have a new Oppo phone to replace a 4 year old Huawei from pre-embargo days.

What will be the easiest way to clone my old android phone to the new phone from different manufacturers? I want to bring over contacts, Apps, chats, photos, docs, email, etc. Appreciate advice from those who have recently changed android phones.

go to playstore and search for oppo phone clone.  Transferring between different brands can be quite unstable so if connection lost, try again. I've did for my mom from oppo to poco and my dad's huawei to OP. i usually put both phones side by side as i find putting them apart even for a few mm, the connection will drop.

Thanks Lala.

I spotted a "phone clone" icon on my Huawei. I wonder if it works between Huawei and Oppo. Will give it a try.

I have to hand it to Apple. Their users can switch devices so seamlessly.  Even a tech ignoramus can port over all their data to a new phone

you cant give it to apple. coz it's apple to apple, literally. lol.

i've transferred LG to LG, super smooth. Same for OP to OP, no issue.

I think not so straight forward if you have 2FA app like Microsoft, google, etc. The reason being, need to use the old phone to export out the 2FA accounts and import to the new phone 2FA app.

I remember both the LG and op are direct copy. Even details like app permissions, wallpaper and ringtone. Google might ask you to confirm if you logged into a new device but that's it.

Is the SIM card moved to the new phone before, or after the cloning process?

It doesn't matter. SIM card is not needed to transfer the data over. But normally i would put the sim in the new phone, power up and do the transfer. Save time on rebooting the phone again.

Many like to compare Apple's seamless phone upgrade process to Android's.

But they seem to expect all Android manufacturers' phones to be interchangeably upgraded/transfer as if they are from one manufacture.

From my experience with Samsung, the upgrade process is seamless if not more seamless than my experience upgrading my wife's iphone 7+ to Iphone 12 pro max.

For her iphone upgrade and transfer, there were a couple of hitches eg. the firmware upgrade that at one point had no indicator and a blank screen and I was not sure if it hung or had to manually reboot....took 2 to 3 tries before I manage to complete the transfer.

My point is, we need to compare apple to apple, Android A to Android A (and not Android B)

i dunno. always treated my phone like a computer.

But i guess as we get older and have more and more apps, it gets a bit more troublesome. Especially now we probably have like at least 20-30 apps that we need to have around for payment/banks/leisure/functions etc.

Reporting first hand experience of migrating from Huawei to Oppo.

1. The Oppo supplied Phone Clone works smoothly. The apps were transferred over, however the secure data not moved over. I had to re-setup my respective bank tokens and SG Parking from scratch. Passwords to forums also not ported over. Have to re-login to MCF,  etc

2. Some photos and holiday videos were not ported over nor warning given as such. I have to search and down load from Google store one-by-one

3. Biggest headache was WhatsApp. My backup was not done just before I migrated. Mistake. I had to back up and reinstall WA immediately. Cost me a few hours.

4. Documents downloaded previously and Google ecosystem  (e.g contacts stored in Google) successfully migrated.

It has taken me half a day to migrate, and I am still learning the new phone with its extra features. The camera on Find X3 is much better than on my Huawei Mate 10.

Conclusion. Data migration is painful enough that I will not want to upgrade phones annually.

Some tips:

1. Back up everything on old phone  to cloud or desktop just before you migrate

2. Charge both old and new phones to the max as the transfer is energy intensive.

3. Move SIM card last. So that you still can receive calls and SMS on the old phone. Important if you need to do 2FA authentication at the same time as the migration

I joined the club. Going holiday in Nov. So decided to get the new camera and not wait for x5 pro.

Got the last set from a shop in race Course Road. The oppo official shop flash sale was disappointing on the weekend.

I am manually installing everything. But I'm not migrating over until I get a new case.

A simple rubber case is supplied. No screen protector.

Like you, I am going shopping for a better case, and a screen protector. Will do so tomorrow at a heartland mall where likely have more choices. If you do come across a good case, do let me know.

when I got my Oppo Reno 3 I also did not shift my SIM card over until a month later.

used the time to buy cover, understand the features and camera, and also stock take on which apps I need and which I don't need.

Maybe hard in Singapore to find both as find x series is low volume sales here in Sg.

I just bought online from shopee for the case (from China). I would suggest u consider buying online. Seems like got only the soft TPU transparent type of case locally.

Hmm have to say that Samsung app icons in one ui is better.

For example Samsung app icons for their native calender will display the calendar date such that I don't need a widget for the date.

And similarly the clock app icon for Samsung also shows the analog clock time. Though that's negated by the time on the notification bar above.

My case came from China. However I forgot that clear backs are fingerprint magnets. Also the side bumper is not as raised as I would like it to be to protect the front screen.

Problem with these China phones is the lack of good cases as compared to a Samsung. I may order another one off taobao.
