Welcome to MCF!! bounce1.gifbounce2.gif

When I got my car, it was about 53K. As it was under warranty, I wasn't so worried, so just did normal servicing at 60K outside. Then at 70K (as opposed to the recommended 80K mark), I had a major service done by RM - replaced ATF, replaced coolant, replaced brake fluid. If you send to authorised agent, can ask them to check if anything else needs to be replaced or not.

It's safer to assume that the previous owner did not maintain the car properly, unless you have proofs otherwise. Could also check with the authorised agent to see if they have any service history of this car. Can also ask them when you're suppose to change timing belt, if you don't have the user manual.

some car (newer ones with better technology) runs on chains so no need to change timing belt.

then some cars change timing belt at 100k instead of 60k mileage.

really depends on what car you driving.

I gotta second Flaser .... [thumbsup]

60K normally is only normal service. Major servicing like timing belts are at 40K intervals from 40K onwards ..... as such its 40K , 80K , 120K, 160K etc etc. But like Acemundo said, sometimes it depends on conditions as well.

Do a self-check and if you think the belt needs changing or have started squealing, then u might as well change it.

Major servicing involves a lot of things. My Mazda major servicing includes about 78 items on the major servicing checklist.

Hey Yadado,

Finally see your post here, welcome to MCF nod.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Since you got the car, unless you have 'prove' of previous service record, it'll be better to get a mech (someone you can trust) to check thru' all the belts, tensioners/bearings & water pump nod.gif

Take a look at the engine block to see whether there any engine stains (sign of oil leaking thru' gasket) wink.gif

As for normal service, it should be stated on the car manual wink.gif

Hi there,Vtim [:)]

As what u said...this is really an interesting forum..really got helpful pple and a non-flaming community here [sunny]

Think i will go to my trusted mechanic and get him to check out the car..

Initially tot i would do a normal servicing at the 60k mark but seems different model car has different servicing interval.. [sweatdrop]

Hi Yadado,

I'm glad that you like it here thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Yes, just goto your trusted mech to let him check thru', most cars will change the timing belt, tensioner/bearing at 40k interval & water pump at 80k wink.gif

since it has clocked 60k, it's better to send to a mech for a thorough check 1st. If the tranny is auto, I will ask the mech to replace the ATF first, since it's relatively cheap to do that. otherwise, just do a routine service will do...like replace plugs, oil filter, engine oil and perform the various checks eg brakes, coolant, etc.
