Mmythos Neutral Newbie December 2, 2003 Share December 2, 2003 Think it should be not to engage to N for the car to roll, this will spoil the gearbox! Ace_t Neutral Newbie December 2, 2003 Author Share December 2, 2003 of course it's not good to put to N and free wheel the car and then engage thereafter. the contention here is what is the implication if the gears were at D or N during a stop. Smiley Neutral Newbie December 3, 2003 Share December 3, 2003 drive manual must put to neutral and pull handbrake fr safety. drive auto no need, just leave at "D" and pull handbrake. where is the safety aspect?
Ace_t Neutral Newbie December 3, 2003 Author Share December 3, 2003 in D, the car is always on the go.. so pulling handbrake eliminates another level of potential accident..in case one is blur and the foot gets off the brake pedal and the car lunges forward. That's why at a stop light or traffic standstill, I put my gear at N and pull the handbrakes or step on brakes.
Vpower Neutral Newbie December 5, 2003 Share December 5, 2003 Guy just wonder den if N will damnage for car, den what is the point of having it, must well put to P aleast the wheel is lock. 1 questuion if there a traffic light i push to N will it save more petrol, or i keep on D all the way???? Luckcent 4th Gear December 5, 2003 Share December 5, 2003 To drive auto and put it into N pos. is not rcommended cause this will cause early wear on the oil seals due to pressure from the torque converter. If you want to save on petrol then drive a manual car.IMHO

Ace_t Neutral Newbie December 8, 2003 Author Share December 8, 2003 2 school of thoughts. if put to N, u dun really save so much on petrol. But it's still better than leaving it at D. No load, so gears will free wheel. Hence might save some fuel. if put at D, you are actually preventing yr car from moving forward, and hence giving it some resistance, which in effect, will burn more fuel and create more wear on the brakes and gears. questuion if there a traffic light i push to N will it save more petrol, or i keep on D all the way ↡ Advertisement
