This brings to the question oil wt. It is true that if you want more protection at startup, then 50wt oil is the way to go but FC

 

A 30wt oil will flow much faster. Oil pressure up in no time from the sump. As for protection . Unless you get one that does not shear easily. RP 10W30 shears to smithereens easily as many UOAs have shown. Most RP users change their oil every 5k to maintain protection. Kinda sucks for a syn oil but hey! its as cheap as dino oil

 

40wt oil is in-between. OK on both fronts. Then there are crazy wackos who use 20wt oil!

The new Toyota Prius! Now with bigger engine at 1.5L, bigger space like a Corona. Uses 20wt oil but will be available next year! By then the green car 20% rebate will be gone by 31 Dec 2003!

Was on sick leave for the past 2 days and spent a bit of time washing the car. Noticed this blue Rolla driving up the MSCP and I instantly knew who it was and knew what he would do. He parked right up nicely into a lot, left his engine on for the next half an hour while chatting on the phone - the time I took for the wash job. And it's not uncommon to find him doing this...especially on weekend mornings.

 

Having driven for many years, I have always believed that engine idle should be kept to a mimimum. Oftentimes I've seen many drivers who park 'temporarily' - only to leave their engines and airconditioners on.

 

I thought the following points might[/url] be helpful for new drivers who may not ever have had a clue about the cons of leaving the heart of a car on while not on the move:

I have 2 neighbours who love to warm up their cars for abt 3-5 minutes before driving off in the morning. I believe a short warm up like 1 minute (as mentioned) is good enough as it takes awefully long (like 15 minutes) before my car get to the optimum temperature.

I remember when I was learning Basic or Advanced theory .... this part about idling is covered. If gonna idle for more than 2 mins ... best to off engine.

 

Been practising it since Day 1 .... i'd rather sweat than leave the car idling for more than 4 mins.
