thanx.

I gather that each wheel would cost $80 ?

would changing wheel bearings warrant a re-alignment of the wheel..?

Yes, but no harm trying to check out with the rest if there are better bargains around. Realignment is absolutely unnecessary; the component change job doesn't affect the car camber/castor/toe-in/toe-out settings in any way.

That is the wheel bearing lock nut , which you have mentioned your mech have replaced the loose lock pin.

Front new wheel bearing will not last very long if it is not properly pack with grease during the inital stage of installation.Once install the bearing must be manual torque correctly to have the right fit and prevent side movement.

oic..

so does my description pinpoint towards a defective wheel bearing ?

I noticed this only after a wheel alignment....is it a coincidence or something resulting out of wheel alignment ...

Inaccurate wheel alignment can cause heavy stress on the wheel bearings and in the long run

you will have bearing failure, ball joint failure and tyre extreme wear and tear.

unlikely a worn wheel bearing problem. that usually results in a humming sound when u r on the move. could be loose bushings.

I hope it's just loose bushings...

so far humming sound comes from road surfaces.... does that qualify for wheel bearing wear n tear ?

if got humming sound on the move, quite likely wheel bearings then. abt $100 to replace the front pair. loose bushings will usually make a knocking sound if u go over any bumps or uneven.

Hi, my car got this humming sound and I send in for checkup and

the agent said the rear bearings is worn out and will roughly cost abot $260. Is this expensive?? Any good workshop to change these??

I changed mine a few years ago. Was quite bad as I ignored it until it got worse until I can't even listen to the radio. Mechanics told me bearing badly worn. In the end I changed a pair for $180.

Can't remember cos it was my previous car, think about 70K. I only change the rear. I don't go back to agent cos I think any workshop can do the job perfectly. At first the mechanic told me 220 and i find it too ex so he told me it's quite labourous. In the end we settle for 180. My current car now clocks 80K but no problem leh.

What car was that when you change the bearings??

Yah my agent quote me $200 exclude GST. Today I meet my friend he said go shell station workshop. At first he quote me $100, then he said $120 use good bearings. Anyway I quite happy with his service. I saw they change it, where got laborious. They use machine take out the whel then they knock out the old bearings, very easily they put in the bearings. The whole process less than 45mins.

Suzuki Swift. yr 96. How about yours?

Mine exp. some technical problems so I sold it in 02. The steering also has rattling sound. At first, mechanic thought it's drive shaft or tie end rod but can't find any problem. Been to a few workshop but just cannot solve the problem so no choice, sold it away.

That workshop I went to charge very expensive rate so they cook up excuses. I never went back again. [mad]
