Rustproofing-Is it worth it?

Hi Bros, just wanna seek views whether it is worth to spend S$280 for rustproofing my new ody. My SE actually told me iot is really not required for modern cars and in local weather conditions. This is because the manufacturing technique and the use of galvanised steel is not prone to rust. The local weather is also not corrosive as well. Furthermore, one is unlikely to drive a car for more than 4-5 years. Any other views?

Heard my fren saying his old Alfa 155 went in, drill a few holes here and there to pump in the grease.

Although car apparently became quieter, but heavier as well.

 

I think newer cars are pretty safe. I'm happy to take the risk.

Industrialised waste and toxic fumes are being released into the air. And it depends on where you are working. If you are working in Tuas like myself, you will realised your car will rust more easily than other folks working in places like Shenton Way or other areas.

 

While most agree that Singapore weather is not as pollutive as other country, but we still have our fair share of acid rain.

 

One year = 365 days

Weekends (based on 4 weeks a month) = 96 days (your car is away from toxic places)

Holidays (inclusive of leave averaged on 28 days) = Appx 50 days (that your car is away from toxic places)

 

Working days! = Your car is in toxic places subjected to acid rain 219 days out of 365 days. Appx 60% (If you are working in Tuas like me)

 

So you can decide if you want to go ahead with it now.

When i booked my ride, the SE also told me no need for kah shield, but when i went for my 1k servicing, the SA said a different thing. i decided to heel the advise of the more technically inclined SA.

A complete rust proof treatment shd be incl. full underside and top side

such as doors and frt and rear fenders. I dont believe in DIY,

my understanding, it has to be sprayed with high pressure spray, to get good

penetration and not just stay on the surfaces.

 

to rust proof your car, better go for professional rust proofer, there are only two companies able to provide up to oem std. Not even 3M with 1L spray can.

go to yellow pages and look for professional rust proofing co.

don't waste your money, your SE is right, unless we are having snow during winter conditions where salt will be spray on the road

hi pal. i got my car rust-proofed with TK when i got delivery of my car. one year later, which is couple of weeks back, i discover some "bloating" of the paintwork on the underside of my boot, near the edge. i really have no idea how the rusting could have appear there. will be going back to TK this sat to hv the prob fixed. anyway, time to check after the one year period.

 

p/s: i am working in tuas area. may be tt will be cause of it.

if u live next to the sea and plan to keep the oddy for 10yrs, yes. otherwise, the next owner in vietnam or NZ will be the onli beneficiary.

heehee.. tuff kote lah... some call it kohtek... i heard the rust proofing is done only on the undercarriage ?
