Seansene 1st Gear July 26, 2004 Share July 26, 2004 My Alpine HU (CDM series) has all but died on me, Radio stations keep skipping, in-built cd player has broken a couple of its components, and now there's no sound, even when the changer is playing. All of which sounds like a hefty repair bill, so I'm thinking of replacing it altogehter. The problem is, the CDM series has been superseeded by the CDA series, whose HUs are incompatible with CDM changers. I went to Pin Liang and had a listen to one of their CDM HUs ($300-ish), but the sound was disappointing. They did mention it was the bottom of the range, and that the one in the Focus is better (I agree). So the choices I have are: buy the low-end HU and keep the changer and settle for lousy sound; chuck both and start from scratch, incurring a cost of close to $1k; or possibly find a second-hand replacement for the existing HU. On that note, I was wondering if anyone was changing their HUs, and is willing to sell at a reasonable cost. It would be a perfect fit, and I would have music back at last in the car! ↡ Advertisement

Seansene 1st Gear July 26, 2004 Author Share July 26, 2004 (edited) HU warranty is one year, dead and gone. Fixing? Done it, but the trobles now are just too much. I'm not an electrical engineer - show me moving parts and I might be able to make sense of them, but circuits?
