How bad is this ?

Pardon me, but I think it's best that these 'excuses' be suggested behind closed doors, that is, using PMing!!! We never know if any TC executives are reading this as we speak...and coulda informed their technicians to be on their guard against the next car that comes in with a replaced engine cap and greasy engine.

Just a thought.

Maybe this should help to ease some of your worries. I once had a colleague who did not service his car for 3 yrs without any problems at all. By the time, he got it change, it was liquid like water and black in colour. If you feel like being spank2.gif or zzwhip.gifmaybe I can help rofl.gif.

Being a blur person that I am at certain times of the year, this is what happened:

curious to see the 'cleanliness' of the engine in my parents' '04 Sunny.

I took off the oil cap for a closer inspection.

was distracted by some event and had to close the bonnet of the car.

parents drove car to m'sia and back.

upon arriving home, oil indicator lights appeared.

they felt something amiss when the car behaved sluggishly and had not much power.

bonnet was opened and behold; engine oil spluttered in every nook and crevice.

engine oil cap nowhere to be seen. Obviously, coz I was distracted earlier.

oil was topped up and new cap replaced.

Like to know from you guys out there...what are the possibilities of engine damage and what should I do, other than scrap the car ? dead.gifdead.gif

How extent is this damage ?

siao liao....smash.gifsmash.gif

you mean you spotted the person in my Avatar sly.gifsly.gifsly.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

Back to the subject proper, don't think there is much of a serious damage on the engine, unless your parents drive like me Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image Anyway, if there is serious engine problem, it'll surface at a much later date Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Oil indicator lighted up.

Engine felt sluggish.. not much power.

But no seizure took place.

Engine bay looks like a hamburger kitchen...so greasy.

Din check the engine temp tho..

still praying hard.

Will be bringing to TC to check....other than ripping the engine out, what else can be checked ? Compression ratio ?

better paint another story instead of you forgetting to put back the engine oil cap sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif

hope so.. thanx for the reassurance. laugh.gif

but will be bringing down to TC to check nonetheless...just in case.

coz the car is just 6 mths old.

trying to be mentally prepared to sell/scrap/repair on the worse case....

won't be damaged so easily lar! unless it was running on the PG track for a solid 45mins, then maybe sly.gifsly.gifsly.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

what I'll do is to get outside workshop to clean the engine bay & only go back to TC for the normal routine servicing at a later date & tell them that the engine feels sluggish sometimes & get them to do a detail check sly.gifsly.gifsly.gif

Hi just an update:

I took the car for a test drive..

engine seems ok. No unusual sounds. Engine temperature looked ok.

Was dark, so could not see the extent of the oil spill. The bonnet sound proofing was soaked with oil.

Engine compartment was abit oily. Most of it cleaned up liao.

car brought to TC next day.

My parents explained to the SE and he did the following:

Did engine bay wash, servicing with full synthetic oil, engine diagnostic. Sourcing for a new sound proof material for the bonnet.

Conclusion, the engine still in ok condition. He mentioned that even with the light on, the engine would still have at least half the oil in the engine...

and it cost her $80... for an unrelated work.. wash external body, respray some paint chip and wax.
